$30 for a piece of chalk...What's your favorite chalk to use?

I think a lot of players have difficulty with changing their rhythm pattern, and understandably so. I still often times reach for my chalk when I don't have to, trying to fill the mental voids between shots.
I went to chalking once a game when I was using kamui . Even did it when I was using predator for a while and now with v10 . I never have miscue issues. I do understand people that feel its part of their routine and thats hard to break.

I tried other chalks like Roku and sniper and knew that I only have to chalk once or twice in a rack, but feeled totally uncomfortable without chalking before every shot. It´s just in the head when you play for such a long time.

Taom V10 or green Triangle for the pressed tip on my playing cue. Green Master for the laminated tip on my break cue.

I’ve been playing for 30 years so I understand. Mine was more I know if I take this $30 piece of chalk up to the table I’m going to leave it behind 😂 so I started leaving it at my case with my cues.

I made a homemade chalk holder out of wooden dowel and a nylon string that inserts into my pocket with the chalk hanging out of my pocket on the string. This works great so I never leave it anywhere when I talk once per game. V10 rocks!

So if I want taom in blue... I have to get the pyro version?

How different is pyro compared to the v10?
Yes. v10 is only available in green. This is the one thing I dislike about it. And why I usually use the Pyro. The Pyro is less clean than v10, but not by much.

I would rather see V10 in blue and other colors, but it really doesn't make that much of a difference because it stays on the tip and doesn't transfer to the cue ball or the cloth. If it made the cue ball dirty and the cloth dirty, I wouldn't use it, but it stays and lasts on the tip so no harm is done.

I cannot understand why anyone would say that “only chalking once per game” is somehow a selling point. Chalking is part of my PSR. If it isn’t every shot, it no longer is part of the PSR and becomes a disruption.

I like Taom (V10, 2.0, and Pyro) because it’s less messy. I have five total. I’ll probably settle on two Pyros for my home table. Right now, I have a light blue 2.0 and a Pyro that I use interchangeably. The light blue 2.0 would be best suited for these new Grey Simonis tables, IMO, since it looks pretty much grey.

I will always do my best to chalk every shot.

You’ll like it. It is slightly less… hard(?) than V10, but it’s still pretty amazing. Also disappears.
Been using the green on my home table covered in Simonis tournament blue.
The stuff is amazing.
Table stays clean.
Where does the stuff go?

I was also a PSR chalking kinda guy, back in Triangle days. Since switching to V10 I have let the chalking slip, and the only thing that's happened is the occasional miscue. So probably 1 or 2 miscues a year or so (Triangle), to maybe a few within a month or so, (V10).

Needless to say, this "selling point" may have some merit but I think this "benefit" is misguided. The threshold to requiring more chalk I think is solely based on your style of play. I'm a heavy english player, so rolling back to my old PSR just makes sense. Even though V10 is pricey. I would still not push my luck at a critical point in a rack for sake of saving a handful of pennies in chalk.

Everyone's mileage may vary...

I've been using the V10 for almost a year now and I was very much a chalk every shot PSR guy. I've played for over 50 years and don't know how long I had done that but it was a long time. I carry the chalk with me, chalk before the rack, and maybe pull it out if I'm going to really gear up on a shot. It only took me a matter of a week or so to get into that habit, which kind of surprised me. I've always carried my chalk in my pocket so I do the same now with the Taom. No blue pocket linings on my jeans anymore!

I just bought two more pieces of it but looking at my original one, it doesn't even really look used, and that's after about 10 months and a lot of play. Great stuff!

I couldn't agree more, and use V10 exclusively now. Just the same, I would like to hear Taom's response as to why it costs so much. Even though V10 is about $20 per cube, I still will use it because of its quality properties.

Hopefully it goes through the cloth. Hopefully it doesn’t go through the skin.

It's $5-10 less than other premium chalks. I'm sure they make a hefty profit, but at least they aren't gouging us as bad as their competitors.

How fast do you go through a peice?
If it's a part of your PSR then it's still important.

Doesn’t look like my Taom cylinders haven’t moved one bit. Granted I’ve only had my new table for a month and a half. But it’s over a hundred hours of chalking. But in the end, I’ll chalk as often as I always have. Life is too short to try to save chalk that I paid for. Lol.

I'm also part of the crowd that doesn't use Kamui because of the disruption in my PSR without chalking it.

However it's a fine product, based on my own 100 ball experiment.

Fresh Master is fine, but if I have to use my own stuff the Predator is also a quality product.

However, for those of you that like the Predator and wondered if it could ever be improved,I still have some stuff made in the 90;s that is exactly that.

In '94 I helped Nick in the practice room at the U.S. Open racking for him,and I met up with him again about a year later at an exhibition and to show appreciation for me helping him,he gave me a 12 pack of a blue labeled National Tournament Chalk with the PBT logo on it. It was made by the same National company that made the cheesy red wrapper stuff, but is as best I can describe it optimized Predator in the standard square form. It doesn't get wet or mushy in humid conditions, and is no more intrusive than normal Masters or Triangle as far as messiness.

I was so impressed with it I called the PBT office and talked Don Mackey's wife into selling me 2 gross of it. I probably have 25 cubes of it left after all this time even after a house fire. The only reason it's not my full time stuff is what I do have left has enough crumbs and dust left on it that the wrappers make a mess if not covered in Scotch tape. Tommy D.

I've used about 1/3 or slightly more of my cylinder. I play a lot of pool. At least 3 nights a week, sometimes much more if getting ready for a tournament or something. Used on break cue, playing cue, and jump cue. This stuff lasts.

It's not often you can celebrate a 1 year anniversary for a piece of chalk, but I'm almost there.
