Pro Pool Player & Pro Golfer

A double eagle is an albatross, is it not?

That is, apparently, what some people call it. Logically it makes no sense because 'double eagle' means 'two times eagle', which would mean 4-under, not 3-under.

Considering that I barely know anything about golf and know that there was already a term for three-under before 'double-eagle' was used, I can't understand why they didn't stick with that.

A little research suggests that most of the world thinks double eagle is a stupid term only used by 'mericun journalists.

I understand that you're confused because you're not a golfer. But if you barely know anything about golf (your words), you should refrain from correcting people on golf terminology.

Hmm. Valid point, but I also know that I've heard 'albatross' for over thirty years and never heard double eagle until this thread. A spectator sport should refrain from making its spectators feel ignorant.

Was my reply to him offensive? I try to be very considerate when I post, especially when responding to someone I don't know.
Don’t be so serious….I thought a pic of a double eagle Might make you laugh.

Agreed. If I had to venture a guess, I think I've actually heard the term "double eagle" more often than albatross. I used to crush it at Mario Golf and that's what they called it :).
