Jack Justis has passed away

Sad to hear. Not sure if that’s why they just quit making cases but it’s sad to hear

I can't believe it to hear that. So sorry. I'm glad to have one of his cases.

I had this exact case. I was just talking to my friend wednesday night who just bought a JB case that I wish I never would have sold my justis case and he passes that same night. What a strange coincidence 😔 I hadn’t used it in years so I decided to let it go. What a mistake. R.I.P sir. Your cases were well made and iconic.

Listening to JB talk about him yesterday on his Facebook post, he said that Mr. Justis had recently retired and sold off most of his equipment. Wasn't sure if the new people were going to continue to make a Justis style offering or not.

I saw a post from Jack saying someone was going to take over making cases. I wasn't sure if Mr. Justis had some sort of ailment that caused him to stop making cases. Found out today his passing was a surprise.

I had done cue biz recently with a Florida guy who told me he has been making trips to Jack's house apprenticing to conrtinue on with Jack's style cases. This gentleman also said he was in the process of buying and transporting all the remaining supplies and equipment back to his place.

I will hold off on id'ing him as I'm sure he will have an announcement about it at some point soon.

Jack Justis was a great man and great friend. I’ve known him and his wife Toots for… 20+ years. I got my first Justis case back in 1999-2000.

Sometime in the mid 2000’s I wrote the InsidePOOL Magazine article on him for my Cuemakers Corner. I got my second Justis case around that time, a new concept he had to make his traditional tube case without the PVC tubes, making it much lighter. Today, we know them as the Justis Pro-Lite case. My case was one of the small number (like 6, if I remember correctly) he had built before he settled on naming the model. I also had drawn up what I wanted (black case with burgundy highlights), and Jack didn’t want to make it, because he didn’t think the colors went together. Today, lots of the same color scheme are out there, and he admitted that he was wrong about the color combo! He also wanted to try a new inlaid diamond on my case, which today is a very common element in his cases out there today.

I also am fortunate to have a Justis West iteration of his cases, one of two or three of the early prototype. It is pretty good quality. Unfortunately, the production version was clearly not the same quality, and the joint venture was ultimately severed. I suppose I will regret not getting his final case model, the envelope cases that he was building after he "retired."

So many memories of Jack, I’ll probably keep adding them as I go along. We broke bread many times and even went to a wedding together (along with other forum members).

RIP Jack Justis
🥲

Always liked Jack's style of case. A true craftsman. Condolences to family and friends. Rest easy Jack.

Wow I was a little shocked to read this today. To be honest I didn't realize Jack was that old. I've known Jack since the mid 80s he'd come by my house once in awhile with cue stuff to do. I'd see him at the pool room pretty much every night and certainly at tournaments.

He wasn't really a very good player but he liked to be around the players. I guess I have not spoken to him in at least 10 years. It's a shame how time goes by and people move in and out of your life. It would have been so easy to just pick up the phone and give him a call and say what's up. I'm very sad to hear this.

Jack counted me as a client. I bought a couple of cases from him during the BCA Nationals at the Riviera in Las Vegas. I never got to know him, but I extend condolences to his family and friends.

Jack had announced last month that Billy Burke had bought his materials etc., and that Jack spent many hours with him and was happy with his capabilities.

Hey Fred;

I wasn't aware that an announcement had been made and, yes sir, Billy Burke is who I was referring to. Hopefully, he'll do a great job with the cases going forward.
