Match Room Sr Event?

Back to the Seniors event, even if they don't outright win, the pros will inevitably knock some guys, legit OFs, out of the tournament who would have otherwise gone deeper and might have even cashed. I know half a dozen OFs like me across the country that will happily donate to the pros in an Open event but won't go to play in Houston. But, at the end of the day, it's their event and they can do whatever they want. No biggie.

i dont understand lou
you would "happily" donate to the pros at an open event
but at the same time
wont go to play in houston
could you explain why alittle more please?

There is a World Seniors Snooker Championship. I don't know how much Matchroom is involved.

I doubt that a seniors pool tour could work other than in the usual self-financed way -- a few stars and a lot of dead money. That's not likely to last long.
True, but something like "The Legends" events of the 1980s, as produced by Allen Hopkins, might work. That event had Luther Lassiter, Irving Crane, Willie Mosconi, Jimmy Moore and a couple of others. I believe all entrants were 65 or older. Earl Strickland, Mike Sigel, Nick Varner, Efren Reyes, Jose Parica, and Buddy Hall might make for a nice lineup.

My only thought on a seniors event is that more breaks should be allowed for men over 50...old dogs just have to stop at every tree. ;)

I think Earl has a couple of years to go before he turns 65 but the others certain would make an interesting show!

I know the young top pros would enjoy Allot talking/learning from some of the greats.
Parica/Efren/Rempe/Hopkins and many others have Allot of knowledge.

Agreed 100%. Yes, and their fellow BCA Hall of Famers Ray Martin, Dallas West, Dan DiLiberto, Buddy Hall, Mike Sigel and Nick Varner are still among us, too.

Gotcha, yes he's 74. My bad.
I always enjoyed 'Amang' Parica's game he was deadly when it came to playing for the cash. I was fortunate to have drinks with him years ago at the Sands Regency in Reno years ago. He turned out to be a nice guy as well as I recall (actually I was lucky to remember anything that night after all the gin and tonics I had that night!) lol

Yeah, even in the 1990's, when the Color of Money Challenge was taking place, you'd have much rather gambled at 9ball with Efren than Parica. Over breakfast one morning during a tournament in the late 90's, Jose told me that no-one in the world would play him a ten ahead race for high stakes at 9ball. Many years later, his backer confirmed to me that this was, in fact, true.

I feel in the minority here. I get the love for the legends of pool. Especially some with some gas in the tank (Efren’s DCC 1P run). But really I think I’d like this about the same as a “senior” NBA All-Star game with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, and Dr J playing right now. It would be best to let their legacies be defined by when they were active. It would be similar to Mohammad Ali fighting beyond his prime. It’s like the footage of elderly Mosconi and Fats driving balls into rails like amateurs. It only holds merit due to the lack of proper money and stature the game holds, letting nostalgia overrule actual merit. We need to be growing to the point an idea like this should seem as cringeworthy as the basketball example I gave.

The consensus seems to be that Matchroom wouldn't touch senior pool with a ten-foot pole. If you think Predator would, why do you feel this?
Predator is a sales organization imo. So, in a different way, is CSI.

Trying to get guys on this forum to switch from Diamond/GCs is tough, but there's a bunch of senior players looking for tournaments who can afford tables. And, many are league players.

Tell those seniors BCA will have a tournament just for them at state and national...oh baby. The tables, of course, will be predator.

I suspect most of what you say is sadly correct. I remember see Ali fight long after he should have been, (probably for financial reasons) and it was sad to see him that way especially when he fought Holmes late in his career. On the other hand I would love to hear some stories these players could tell about things that they experienced during their careers. That would be much preferable to watching them try compete against each other being so long in the tooth as many of them are now.

Gotcha. Super Billiards Expo has had a senior division in its bar table events for decades and it seems to draw a good crowd.

I wonder if the crowds these senior events draw at the expo is more due to respect and curiosity as opposed to the expectation of high level play.
The bar table probably would mitigate that somewhat I suspect. Don't get me wrong I'm sure that some of them have some gas left in the tank to be sure. If those guys showed up in wheelchairs for a ring game only a fool would try their hand with them!
