Matchroom Major Event-European Open (8-13 Aug), Fulda, Winner $30K Prizefund $200K

It's a great day for New York insomniacs. At 4:00 AM, both the European Open and the Women's World Cup match begin.

After first few hours of play, it is walk in park for big names. Lechner, Wojciech, Chua, Niels whitewashing their much weaker opponents.
The shock is Gorst down 0-6 to a 600+ opponent https://www.kozoom.com/en/pool-billiard/players/horsuns-aleksandrs.html They must have accidentally reversed the score

Time difference is brutal for the diehard virtual pool railbirds.

I see snooker champ Gary Wilson won his first-round match.

Here's the brackets: https://nineball.prpbilliards.com/bracket

that one should have been on the main table, rather than these ritual slaughter matches. the ukrainian kid showed a lot of heart. i think it went to 8-7 before he dogged an 8-ball and gary closed it out.

Does anyone know why Wu Kun Lin and Chang Yu Lung had to play each other in the first round? Both are top 50 in the world based on FargoRate, so it seems odd Matchroom wouldn't have seeded both of them.

Current Matchroom rankings have YL Chang at #374 and Wu Kun Lin is #32. The latter is, more than likely, seeded. Fargo has never been the basis for seeding.

YL Chang, as we know, is a rock-solid player, but he has rarely competed over the last few years so his ranking has fallen.

chang yu lung entered the spanish open unseeded and exited unseeded irc.. obviously not back to his pre-pandemic form

MVP of WCOP, Johann Chua has been misfiring post-WCOP. Failed to make last 64 of his home event Sharks International 9 Ball Open. Now on verge of being sent to one loss side but somehow saved by his opponent Hybler inability to close the match . Trailing 7-8 in race to 9 , Chua is breaking.

We could see fastest recorded match next -Filler v Drago on Table 1 after Chua-Hybler match

Fedor comes back against Pisklov. I think he was down 3-7. 9-7 final.

James Aranas vs. Mikey/Mickey Krause starting on YouTube now.

A few lesser questions to answer this week:

1) Will the event host, Thorsten Hohmann, have a strong finish in his hometown of Fulda?
2) Will, Georgi Gergiev, breakout player from the Slovenia Open, maintain his form?
3) Will Mortiz Neuhausen continue his ascendancy toward the game's top tier?
4) With Wolford absent, can an American make a strong move in the Mosconi race?

By the way, where is Spanish Open Champion Jin Hu Dang?

it looks like the first main tv table matches are quoc hoang vs other vietnam guy followed by lo ho sum vs stuart bingham

It is unforgivable that they did not put Oliver Ortmann's match on live stream. Unforgivable!

Apparently Ms Frazer will have to wait until all the sound players of the past pass away. Oliver Ortmann at T1 vs Mario He has just played perfect position on the purple ball (rack 3). Only to realise it is NOT the ball he has used to see throughout all his illustrious career.
