damn, until this yr i thought of him as one of the highest regarded makers by his work and never heard a peep, now its been shown he acts like the crown clown criminal
 
In my never-ending pursuit of Tonkin until he refunds Ken Peters’s ill-gotten $18,000, I posted my opening salvo in this thread to a post on Facebook’s Open Billiards Market Buyer/Seller Transactions. The post was just approved by the folks who run that Facebook page and has been published.

He IS a genius cue maker, not a criminal or a thief as depicted by these posts., the pandemic closed his family business, his wife of 45 years died a slow prolonged illness that resulted in her death. during that time he was her sole caregiver. If you have been in this situation, you will understand how time consuming that task is and how that causes priorities to shift away from work and on to the reality of human mortality. .so dont kick people when they are down,, have a little compassion. give the guy a break, there is no premeditation to defraud , the person who ordered it will get his order and will be very pleased with it.

wendyb, are you connected to Pete Tonkin's businesses in any way?
 
A full refund would be great, but is not going to happen. And wendyb has no idea what she is saying. Tonkin has no intention of ever delivering the cue that was promised years ago. He told me it would be delivered by the end of last month and now refuses to even respond to emails about this matter. That is not an honest person.

Honestly though ... someone to keep paying after a couple thousand without any signs of progress is somewhat nutty. 18k for a cue is dumb. what is a 18k pool cue going to do for you that a 1500 dollar cue wont. at some point a person has to stop and think is this smart to keep doing ... its a pool cue not a mustang. VERY WRONG IN TONKIN.... but crazy for someone to willfully keep digging the hole

I'd never take the risk of advancing money to an aging cuemaker in today's economy. Anything goes wrong and you get nothing.

Just build the goddam cues and then sell them. They work and live on advances. Building cues isn't rocket science.

Guy will claim bankruptcy and most people will get nothing.

I am amazed (and maybe I shouldn't be) by the number of people posting on the Forum and on Facebook, who have been screwed by Pete Tonkin. I have also received numerous PM's from people who have similar experiences with Tonkin to mine. They don't want to go public because they are still hoping to get their cues-after years and years of lies and broken promises! I can only conclude he is a Thief!

The fact that he is a great cuemaker and may be a great person, and had a horrible situation is no excuse for his apparent behavior in this case-
