Scam Attempt from Classifieds

I recently posted on someone's for sale ad and then took the conversation to PM, and eventually text. After everything was worked out and payment made, the seller promptly created a UPS label, sent me a picture of it, and then dropped it off to be shipped. Great transaction, no issues.

Then the next day I get an email (I never gave my email to the seller) seemingly responding to my comment and offering the item for a lower price than what we had already agreed upon. Obviously, the email is from a scammer and not the actual seller, but just wanted to put it out there to everyone to be vigilant and look out for things like this.

How did this scammer get your email?

It isn't an 'I don't know' kind of question...you need to know.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Somehow, the scammer got my personal email address. I'm not sure if my email is even attainable through AZ.

I was almost fooled and asked the seller to give me a call. He called me and I knew immediately. I still have his phone number...could / would authorities do anything with that number?

Its not unless you post it. If someone has gained access to AZ files Mike really needs to do something. Not saying it HAS happened but you can't be too vigilant these days.

If he “took the conversation to text”, then the scammer got his phone number. Google your own phone number sometime… in many cases you can find personal info including email, address, full name, and family member names from a phone number.

That’s far more likely than AZB’s system getting hacked. If that happened, we’d probably all be getting the same pool-related email spam.

EDIT: I overlooked the part about the scammer not being the seller, who was honest. This makes it FAR more likely that AZB may have a vulnerability that allows an attacker to get access to someone’s email, unless the two members who reported the same issue above have posted their email to a public comment on this site before, which would make it possible to find via a google search of the username limited to this site, or by browsing through past posts and comments of the target member.

The email that this was sent to is not the same email I used to sign up for AZB. I know how they got it, but I'm not willing to put it on here. If really interested, I'll respond to DM.

Again, this was NOT the fault of AZB.

you all got a telephone and look at it ten hours a day or more.

why dont you call up all money deals and verify who you are talking to. before sending money or responding to emails, texts to and from screen names.
on first contact ask for a phone number then google it and verify its from him and his.

if you get taken without doing your homework you are the sucker in the deal.

I highly doubt it. The seller is a well respected Silver/Gold member of over 12 years here. I don't think he would risk his rep over a few hundred bucks.
Great, yes agree if that's the case.

Scammers are the worst. I had a Scruggs cue on here and ebay about 15 years ago and someone stole my pictures and put their own ebay ad. I saw it and was able to have ebay shut it down. After that I started putting my name in all the pictures.

Funny, on a dating app years ago someone copied and pasted word for word my profile text and put it on their profile (as a woman). I came across their profile and messaged them, and they were oblivious. Scammers are everywhere.
