MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

Under WPA rules, Woodward's pocketed lag was "bad." Shaw's lag was not bad. So they would not lag again; Shaw won the lag.

So Desi either didn't know the rule, or she saw the rolloff and decided to override the rule.

[or Matchroom doesn't use the WPA rule]
You are correct. I've seen this happen before. It's a loss of the lag. There is no re-lag!

They are fantastic players and it’s too bad they can’t just left their play speak for itself, but I find it hard to take Shaw or Filler, the way they act. The other 3 Euro players actually act like they’ve been there before, with class. I can’t see any of the US players acting the way those two do, even if we were winning.
Do you remember Earl Strickland? Shaw and Filler are choir boys compared to Earl.

I like Shane stepping up. That is the only way things can turn around. Not completely, but in the best case an American win.l for the day.

What happens on a 3-1 for America?

Shane's lag just rolled off towards the corner pocket a bit, same direction as all the others.

If this is the last Mosconi before the Heyball revolution, then it shows why it should be Europe VS Asia for the Reyes Cup.

Americans are not worth their time
on the tv table. Anyone can lose like that. They wont need sponsors or training to take that beating. Its like a military academy training.

US standards are so low.

Game 1 - SVB vs Filler

Shane breaks, dropping the 1 in the side but he's hooked on the 2. Pulls out the jumper and makes a nice hit, but leaves an open look at the 2.

Filler tries to play safe, but flukes the 2 into the side pocket - he locked himself up, lol. Has to kick at the 3, and makes a nice hit, leaving a perfect short shot on the 3 and an open table.

SVB should be out from here. He NEARLY dogs the 4, but it rattles then drops. Still perfect for the out, and he finishes it.

Score 1-0 SVB.

That 4 ball in rack one was a dead miss by Shane. They talk about how tough this table is? I don't recall playing on a table any time in memory that shot would have gone in.

Does Frost actually talk like that in real life? I'm assuming no so why the hell is talking like that now. Sounds ridiculous.

Game 2

Filler breaks, making the 1 in the side, but the 2-9 are locked up near the spot. He plays an excellent safe, opening up the cluster at the same time.

SVB takes an extension to put together his jump cue. He fouls on the 3 ball, which was only about 6" in front of his CB, ugh.

Filler plays the 2-6 combo with BIH, and the rest of the table looks ripe for the pickin'. He finishes in business-like fashion with surprisingly little showboating.

Score 1-1.

Game 3

Shane breaks dry, leaving the 1 in the jaws of the top corner with the 6 halfway blocking it.

Filler pushes while making the 1 in a combo off the 6. Shane gives the long impossible shot on the 2 back to him. He hits it dead-on and leaves a perfect shot for Shane.

Shane has an open table which shouldn't present any issues. He makes an interesting choice of leaves on the 6, getting a bit straight, which causes him to come up a bit short on the 7. He makes the 7 but leaves a longish thin cut on the 8, which he slides in while getting perfect on the 9, which he drops.

Score 2-1
