at 2 hours each player gets an inning (that should not take an hour)What isn't clear is at 2hrs the next two turns take the whole hour? Game should be over if you ask me but it goes into the third hour how?
The 'action room' is one of THE main reasons this event even exists. May not be a tournament but Greg was wanting to re-create the 'vibe' of JohnstonCity and that is for players to GAMBLE while there. If you didn't get to experience Derby during the ExecutiveWest days then you just don't really know the 'true' DerbyCityClassic. The Accu-Stats arena and the PoolActionTV Action room are completely different than what I am talking about for the side tables. And it’s fair to say that the action room isn’t really part of the tournament officially.
On Fedor’s YouTube channel, I counted at least 26 matches for 2023 played on the side tables.
I remember stumbling across this post about a guy that played him first round in Banks and was able to share the match with his family.
It’s the small things like this that matter. It is why lower level players enter in to the tournament with a chance to get a great draw in the first round.
If the organizers don’t have an option to broadcast the side matches and a player can be polite and unobtrusive with their setup…I say let it keep going. That is why I am curious about what will be allowed and why it was added to the rules update document specifically.

I just think using the 4-ball Grady Rule from jump street would be the best way. Maybe play old-school in the last four or in the final. I tried watching that Varner buntfest at the Houston Senior deal. Absolute torture.at 2 hours each player gets an inning (that should not take an hour)
after each player gets an inning they go to the 4 ball grady rule
until they hit 3 hours
if it did take one hour for the inning each at 2 hours
still at 3 hours the 3 hour rule would come in to effect
after each player got an inning ie 2 ball grady rule
at 4 hours the play stops and whoever is ahead in games and balls wins
if tied they play until someone makes a ball or someone fouls
Nah. Just look along the line. More to left or more to right? How could anyone ever spot a ball accurately on the line if what you say is true?Edge is way easier to officiate. B-O-B is a pia to judge and can/does lead to disputes and calling for a ref.
The 500 player fields and all the “new” side tournaments effectively eliminated most DCC action. The 'action room' is one of THE main reasons this event even exists. Whatever. Edge is faster.Nah. Just look along the line. More to left or more to right? How could anyone ever spot a ball accurately on the line if what you say is true?
It helps to have a line drawn in either case. Do they?
What side events? Only one left i know of is the Bigfoot. The 14.1Challenge has been gone for years. 300 would be good i agree. The 500 player fields and all the “new” side tournaments effectively eliminated most DCC action.
I’d like to see 300 field caps, race to 7 in 9 ball, pro cut pockets, and the new 1 pocket rules.
I think the side action would return, and the event would be more enjoyable.
IMO![]()
All the pro nine ball tournaments are center of cue ball. 14.1 was always center of ball. The written rules of pool have always been center of ball. Of course, pool players don't read.DCC has always been edge of the ball. So has every single tournament I’ve ever played in on USA soil since my first tournament in 1994 or so.
Agree. It's been written center of the ball for 40 years at least it seems. Just no tournament I ever played in was like that, nor gambling match. Mostly local level for me, some regional level. All the pro nine ball tournaments are center of cue ball. 14.1 was always center of ball. The written rules of pool have always been center of ball. Good question. I was wondering the same.i understand this is mainly directed at the Am in Pro-Am. but will they inforce these rules in a TV table match between two pros?
I don’t believe they would. But if you want to shorten the race, to take something away, there should be a little give and take.No offense but why would they ever lower them? People line up to play as is. They had to put field limits in order to get done 'somewhat' on time.
The fifth round rebuy was there last year I know. I believe that is where you are in the money.View attachment 733112
Some more new info:
Banks max 475
One Hole max 400
9 ball max 500
Player must rebuy if 5th round? That is a strange one...
It looks to me the only changes to affect time management of the 9 days is in the one hole. The max fields I don't think will really come into play since they are so high anyway. I personally think it will still run way too long, because they didn't change anything about the 9 ball.
Didn’t they go back on pocket size also if so that could helpView attachment 733112

I'm actually surprised they made any changes.
Looks like limited entries, (but does not state what the number is).
No walkups allowed if field is full.
Rule changes to 1 pocket at 2, 3, and 4hrs.
I do think they should have went back to race to 7 on 9 ball. They only went to 9 to appease the then WPA "rules".
They are using the ''edge of ball'' ruling for the head-string, not the base of the ball to determine it's position.
