DCC... UPDATE

They should use the GradyRule(2hrExpress) up until the final four players imo. Speed it up. All that up-table Varner-wedge stuff is boring as fk to watch.

Varner is abut the only guy who plays a wedge game and I don't believe he's played in the DCC for years.

What side events? Only one left i know of is the Bigfoot. The 14.1Challenge has been gone for years. 300 would be good i agree.

Perhaps the "Mini" events -- they usually kick off at midnight but are limited fields.

Still it's almost impossible to get a table to match up on until the early morning hours.

My only other comment at this point that unless they've hired a bunch more staff to troll two floors of tables I don't see and how they're going to enforce these express rules the first few rounds.

Then there will be the issue of a player telling his unsuspecting opponent that it's time to go to the "Express Rules," lol. Players at this event often just show up to play and are unaware of DCC rules like the BotB rule, the requirement to lag for the break, a ball on the break being a re-rack, fouls owned canceling each other out, and now "Express Rules."

Anyone planning on pulling out that one on their own better have a printed copy of the rules in their back pocket.

I couldn’t fall asleep one night so I went down and practiced a bit at 3am on the second floor tables that overlook the floor. It’s eerily quiet and was a nice chapter to add as a spectator. There were a probably a dozen or so people in the open room with six tables at the top of escalator. I walk in and it was kinda funny to see people either chirping for a short race or just people napping in chairs-turned-makeshift beds.

Yes, there's a lot of over-nighters on the second floor, lol -- grace of God but there go I and all that.

The Accu-Stats arena and the PoolActionTV Action room are completely different than what I am talking about for the side tables. And it’s fair to say that the action room isn’t really part of the tournament officially.

On Fedor’s YouTube channel, I counted at least 26 matches for 2023 played on the side tables.

I remember stumbling across this post about a guy that played him first round in Banks and was able to share the match with his family.

It’s the small things like this that matter. It is why lower level players enter in to the tournament with a chance to get a great draw in the first round.

If the organizers don’t have an option to broadcast the side matches and a player can be polite and unobtrusive with their setup…I say let it keep going. That is why I am curious about what will be allowed and why it was added to the rules update document specifically.

The big difference is that you were out there in the arena competing and they weren’t!

They've put a cap on the entries but the cap is too high, so basically they're trying to solve a square problem with a round solution.

they'll need
a big hammer
The One Pocket rule will make a big difference. I agree with Garczar though. It should be used from the start of the match. Then you would see very few matches even go over two hours.

How about they agree on the starting time at the beginning of the match? Do you think that might help?

But that's not really 1pocket -- a 1pocket game can easily go an hour with both guys shooting quickly and at their hole.

And then, the next game might be over in 10 minutes. It's potentially five game so IMO, for a race to three you need to allot three to three and a half hours that can happen without slow play or a wedge.

Jay, at the DCC, particularly in the early rounds, you get guys who are not necessarily experienced 1pocket players and familiar with all the rules.

You gotta explain and the guy doesn't understand, and there are bathroom breaks to factor in and re-explaining the rules, and then it becomes a goat rope and an argument. The only way it works is if a TD comes around and make things happen and explains the rules. But then, how many new TDs does that take for Diamond to hire and how does the TD know exactly when you started after your match was called? Maybe it was two hours, maybe two and a half, maybe an hour and twenty.

It's a dumb solution. Guys just want to play 1pocket the way it was intended to be played without a bunch of gaffed up rules just to make the tournament go faster for the promoter. You've paid your entry to play in a *One Pocket Tournament* not some deviant analog of the game.

Re-read the 2 Hours rules. There’s nothing to stop an extended safety battle.
I'm aware of the [no losing] ethics involved but it says one turn each.

I haven't been there in a few years, my ideal as a participant and a spectator would be:

-300 field max in all 3 divisions
-Banks as they are
-One pocket I think the express rule at 2 hrs is ok. I might put it at 2.5 hrs since 300 field max in my scenario.
-Race to 7 in 9 ball
-10 ball Bigfoot get a second table. It monopolizes the whole event on one table. It's ok if only half the matches are streamed. No one will care.

-4.5" pro cut pockets.
-Action room is opened back up (instead of all the tables in the entire building being used for the tournament).

-No straight pool tournament. Ok to the high run portion of it only. The tournament never worked out even in the 300 player field days.

-Hamburger stand outside the tournament room 24/7.
