Jayson Shaw First Contracted Pro on WNT

Pool contractors are just like gig workers.

Paid shooters for rooms that cant train or develop their own. Same happens in science, nit cant do the work, a pro is called in.

Every country and sport has them except for pool. Which agents scout for contract pool players? I plan to audition, I think I have the talent.

It was Dragon then Predator its so hard to tell. Now is it matchroom or sponsors of matchroom that want to compete in nineball?

I prefer players to be allowed to play where they want.
It's a shame that groups of people who host events care more about controlling the sport than growing it.
If they're paying him it's no different than any other sport - I'm pretty sure Tom Brady wasn't allowed to go play for Buffalo whenever he wanted.

If we want pool to become a recognized sport, this needs to happen

I just looked through the WPA calendar. I assume anything on there is sanctioned and would be what WNT players cannot participate in if they receive a WPA suspension any time after March 1st.
  • Jan 4: Turning Stone
  • Jan 19: Derby
  • Feb 15: Euro Tour Tallin
  • Feb 21: PBS Las Vegas Open
  • Feb 27: Predator WPA 10-ball Championship
  • Apr 11: Euro Tour Open
  • Apr 15: EPBF European Championship
  • May 6: Qatar Open
  • May 17: Qatar Heyball
  • May 23: Euro Tour St. Johann
  • Jul 3: Vietnam Heyball
  • Jul 25: WCBS Championship
  • Aug 1: Eurotour
  • Aug 15: Indonesia Heyball
  • Aug 22: Euro Tour Treviso
  • Aug 29: Turning Stone
  • Sep 2: PBS New Zealand (+ women 9-ball champ + World Junior Champ)
  • Sep 14: WPA 9-ball China Open
  • Oct 13: WPA men 8-ball champ (+ WPA women 10-ball champ)

I'm confused what the Oct 13 8-ball world championship is vs. the Nov 18 8-ball world championship.

Definitely noticing the absence of the PBS stops. I heard that was scaling down. This is just me digesting it from an official source.

This is the language from WPA reminding me of the March 1 enforcement date.

I don't know if the new Apex Mixed Doubles event will be sanctioned but it's on Feb 24 which is before the Mar 1 enforcement date anyway.

Not so surprising from the list is the absence of the Matchroom World 9-ball Championship which last year was in May and hasn't been announced yet. Will one be held this year? Will it be unsanctioned? Will it represent the irreparable separation of Matchroom from WPA?

So when we looks at the Matchroom schedule we only know of the following events so far in terms of scheduling. (both after Mar 1)
  • Apr 25: World Pool Masters
  • May 7: UK Open Pool Championiship
So we do know they'll have 12 events this year.

I was so focused on the Reyes Cup leak that I overlooked this language at the bottom of that document.

Billy Thorpe is No. 2 to be signed on the tour. What does this mean? Are they getting paid, or is this just something to ensure they don't play for the competition? I don't get it. Why wouldn't Matchroom give an explanation what this means? Good grief! I'm happy for Billy, though. Yay!

I'd assume they're going to be a large number of these announcements coming soon, would really like to know what they mean exactly
I know. On the one hand, it is good news, but on the other, I feel like I don't understand what it means. What is different if they are signed? Are they getting paid to be a pro like snooker pros get $20,000 a year?

Looks like they’re putting together the ultimate Bad Boys roster 😂

All this and that and why. MR has dealt with Snooker players for a long time, I know they have a much better grasp on a business model than MacKay and The PCA and the Camel Tour.

I believe it is just like the sport of Bass Fishing. Back in the 70s, 80s,&90s the Bass pros would have contracts with companies or say a sponsorship where they would be given tackle rods and reels to use and they would give the sponsors they had 10% of there winnings. A bass boat would be given to you for sponsoring but you had to try to sell it before one year or you started to make payments on it. First place was a $25,000 boat . But then the Bass world changed in 2005 and entry fees went from $2000 to $5000 per tournament. But the payouts for first went to$100,000. But the fishermen had new contracts and the way it became was The highest paid pro was being paid by his sponsorship up to $500,000 + not counting on his winnings. The bad thing this did for fishing was it raised the price of tackle rods reels and Boats. A new boat in 1995 was $25,000. & now in 2023 $85,000. That new pool cue you been wanting for $2,000. If pool starts contacting players. That cue will be $6,000 in ten years. Hope not.

No one knows for fact what any of this means unless they have the contract in their hands.

However, from everything Emily has said the past 3 years, she is NOT limiting the players playing in any WPA or other event.

The WPA on the other hand is doing exactly that.

Unless there are conflicts (like we saw recently in snooker). But if the players are being paid under the contracts, then that’s fair to me.
