World 10-Ball Championships, Feb-Mar 2024, Las Vegas, The Rio

So having this be only 64 players is obviously kinda weird/a good number of players not in the field that obviously should be.

However as a viewer even round 1 match ups are looking very juicy/ exciting

Is there any explanation anywhere about how they came up with the list of players for the Men's World 10-ball event? Found it very strange that only one Filipino, Carlo Biado, is on the list. I also saw posts from Sanjin Pehlivanovic and David Alcaide expressing disappointment that they were not chosen. I hope there is a reasonable explanation out there.
And the guy who won 3 days ago on the same table isn't in it?

From the PBS website:

Event 5 (World Championship): Double elimination: best of 3 sets, each set is a race to 4, if the score is tied at 3-3 in the deciding set, a shootout determines the winner. Single elimination: best of 5 sets, each set is a race to 4, if the score is tied at 3-3 in the deciding set, a shootout determines the winner.
There has been some irritation voiced due to the format. I think this might be unwarranted in terms of how effective the format is at separating wheat from chaff. A brief study shows that the best of three set format is equivalent to a single race to 9 -- not unreasonable. And the best of five sets used in the single elimination phase is close to the same test as a single race to 13. The shortest match in the knock-out is a 12-0 score and the longest is 17-17 plus a shootout.

Some people like sets and some don't but I think the format is a fair test.
Bob, can you explain how the ghost tourneys for younger players work??

I mean, this isn't really the death of 'open' events, just the death of 'open' events as you know them ;)
Still seems fairly 'open' to me. If anything, it's sorting wheat from the chaff (or dedicated from the dollar billed)

Incredible post on Facebook from Fedor about being denied a break between sets to go to the bathroom. And then agreeing with his opponent to each forfeit a game in their final set so they could both go to the bathroom. This would be a joke for a minor tournament let alone a world championship.

I play in the World Series of Poker most years. The Rio has the worst security of any property in Vegas. If you're going, watch yourself and stay in groups.
I know they are remodeling the rio but if you watch any video’s or tik toks about vegas talking about where to not stay the rio is always in the top 5.. circus circus is usually number 1 lol

i don't know if they played in the derby main events, if so the row was broken. but it's the third world championship match in a row where alex beats filler (w9b, w10b, w10b).
Do have more specifics? Left or right side/round - or better yet flow charts? Always wonder about these things.
