Not really a good comparison. They don't really make rackets just for looks. Different sizes etc. but they don't make custom 'show-off' rackets. Now golf DOES have 'show-off' clubs. Some hi-end Japanese models will run you 20grand for a full set. I would venture to say it's all relative. Sure, there are some players who understand the difference but, even fewer who can maximize on that difference. We're on a forum with a few thousand (maybe) players so in this space the number of people who both understand and can maximize the difference is much higher than in real life. Go to a large APA tournament and ask people why they bought their CF shaft, I'd be interested to know how many say because it looks cool. In my minimal league experience (3 years APA - 1 session BCA), there are WAY more bangers who have zero idea of the intricacies of how a cue (LD in this case) affects play.

Simply pointing out that they have become popular because they look cool, not necessarily because it helps their game. Marketing.

It was wild when I realized I could put both left and right english on draw-stun-follow shots with my Revo.

Heard the next BIG thing in pool will be chalk made for righties and lefties. Seems that cutting-edge research has shown that you should only use chalk custom tuned for use by the hand you chalk with. Price will be around $50bux. Get in line now. ;)
 
You do know CF shafts have less deflection right? This isn't some voodoo black magic. This is proven.
Therefore, from those who learned how to play pool with deflection, this was a game changer. If you're a beginning player then it may not improve your game if you're starting out with it. There won't be a learning curve but learning how to play pool.

It doesn't make custom cues obsolete. Shafts? Perhaps.

A lot of you guys remind me of this....... the good thing is you guys adopted the computer and we can all chat and use the internet. It beats playing with a calculator. ROFL

Not all CF shafts are low-deflection. Lo-defl. is the result of lowering front-end mass. This can be done with wood or cf. Some cf shafts made for 3c have same deflect. as old-school wood. Its not so much the material as its implementation.

I've owned several Scruggs over the years. High end ebony with ivory boxes.....another 4 pointer with inlays I bought from Tim at his shop (nice memory)..and may sneakies.

You're comparing apples and oranges. You're comparing "price" and inferring that the higher price makes it a better player than your Powers. That isn't the case. Hit and playability is subjective. Always. I think you can buy some cues now for $150 that play fantastic with a little tuning.

Price for anything is driven by supply and demand. Timmy's cues are legendary and always will be. They have a high demand with finite supply. The demand and price continue to elevate over the years due to these factors. I've played with some of his cues I thought played like hot garbage and some that were the best hitting cues ever. Again...SUBJECTIVE. But they were all gorgeous.
