if it is closed to non gay people i dont go for that. if its open to all why have a gay tournament. doesnt make sense.

if its closed to so called straight people then they shouldn't be upset if there is a no gay people allowed tournament. isn't that fair?

then we can get to the racial tournament.

point is,,, its a pool tournament and it shouldn't be named anything other than that.
Read the poster on page one of this thread. All your questions will be answered.

FWIW, the charity that recieved 50% of the entry fees is a teen suicide prevention organization.

Another vote for Zapp's Voodoo.

"I'm a Lay's potato chip guy, you don't see me bitching when I see an ad for Pringles."

You've obviously never tried Utz, Fried Dill Pickle flavored potato chips.
I promise you will never go back!
👍
it's kind of a Northeast thing, but Humpty Dumpty chips are awesome.... and they have most every flavor imaginable.

That is a very controversial “charity” and some LGB communities have denounced them.

They have become the likes of BLM. Some still support them and some don’t especially in the wake of the founders stealing money. They are not even a charity either.

Remember just because you align yourself with one group doesn’t mean you are with another.

I support LGB but not that charity.

you guys missed the point as usual. it wasnt about who was allowed to enter. it was a tournament designated to a special group
of individuals. not like a policeman's group or a bus drivers tournament. to me it is almost or just like saying its a Caucasian mans tournament but those that are not but are alright with that are okay to play.

to be plain i have no issue with gay people or really any group as long as they do not disrupt my life inserting their views.
all people are equal.

My wife and I lived in a high rise in the Montrose section in Houston in the80’s and 90’s. The gay section in Houston. I miss it. It was culturally artsy fartsy. I now live in Fair Oaks Ranch which reminds me of Ft Polk. Lots of war hero’s who never left the base.

I never had a problem with my pronouns until recently.

Mort Sahl, who some may pleasantly recall as a 1970s-era very acute, sometimes acerbic social commentator, humorously had this to say about one of a few overly-evangelized lifestyles (steaks vs vegan, gay vs straight, rationalist vs believer, etc.):

For years it was "The love that dares not speak its name" . . . but now it's the love that won't shut up !!! 😴

Arnaldo ~ We largely do get along very well. IMO tolerance is baked into the beautiful Emma Lazarus poem beneath the Statue of Liberty:
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Arnaldo - you have too much class for a pool forum. You must be a 3C player!

Sometimes words in print are misconstrued, especially on social media. I read a really cool article about a tournament in New Orleans entitled "How the Queers Stole Billiards." It was a cool pool read, and I loved the pictures. The use of the word "queer" may be upsetting to some, but what I find refreshing is how the folks at this event embrace their queerness and don't give a damn what others think. "Gay" and "queer" are not bad words.
CAUTION: Deep (Woke?) Thinking Ahead

This is where I have problems. Based upon my limited understanding and exposure, it seems to me that acceptance, or "political correctness", of the use of a particular term depends upon by whom the word is being used, and to a lesser degree, the context. (See also, recent use of the "N" word in certain current music genres.) I find this objectionable, because I feel that, so long as I am not using a word inappropriately, I should have its use just as freely available to me.

I realize that certain words will always have the ability to harm and will cut certain folks very deeply without regard to the identity/intent of the speaker, context, etc. Accordingly, great care and discretion should attend the use of such words -- just as we should ideally find when handling firearms and other weapons. I know some will disagree, but, for me, the protection of and care for the feelings of others should always be paramount -- the very last thing I ever want to do is hurt someone's feelings -- such behavior is so base and uncaring (inhumane), and, usually, so easily avoidable. (LOL. I'm a pretty tough old buzzard and don't require much care in this regard -- just watch out for the kids, old folks, and others who may be particularly vulnerable.)

Center City Phila has a section dubbed The Gayborhood.
Please note this post has nothing to do with anything.

I still don't have a problem with my pronouns. Other people might, not me. I quit worrying about people who couldn't keep up with who they are a long time ago.

Why should gay people?

You must be confused, I never so much as suggested that anyone should hide their alternative lifestyle ideals or displays. Just don't expect me to buy into the delusional thinking of men giving birth, males born with penises competing against female born females, and the whole pronoun thing. If wrong pronouns are so hurtful just give me your name, I will use that to address and reference you because people shouldnt be expected to refer to someone as a cat because they somehow identify as a cat.
