I did see one at a course nearby where a guy shot 88 the first day and 69 on day two. He just had a horrible 1st rd. and everyone knew him so it wasn't a big deal. He did catch a load of shit tho, believe me.
They love salotto in HoustonActually I think the Salotto matches could help catch sandbaggers. Golf handicaps can give you a red flag or “T” handicap if your tournament results don’t square with your score history right? So if you have lots of Salotto games in your rating and your tournament results are consistent with a player 100 points higher, well it seems like your FargoRate should get adjusted 100 points higher and all your Salotto results discarded. Easier said than done I guess.
I think it is good this was noticed. I am a fan of FargoRate and any handicapping or rating system needs ways to detect those who manipulate it. Ideally you combine the math and people who know the players. Sounds like this guy has a reputation locally.
Well there’s the other feature of golf handicapping. The 88 will get tossed out and the 69 won’t. Probably much harder or problematic to do in FargoRate. Different systems. I had this happen to me in the ND State bowling tournament years ago: Shot 717 in singles plus i think 15-20 pins of handicap/game. Finished 7th in HDCP Singles for a decent check. Got a lot of heat for sandbagging...then i shot 5-something in doubles. Just pulled one good set out of my ass. Partner was pissed though...Most amat. golf tourns. are flighted. No, its not easy, if it was this nit would not have gotten caught. If you don't like Fargo simply do not play in Fargo handicapped tournaments, seems a lot easier than bellyaching about it here all day.

You cant seriously believe that A/B/C ranking systems or the ranking system where the TD pulls a handicap out of thin air are better. So you are saying that you know people who are gaming the system and winning tournaments because of it?? If so I would be interested to see the proof, FR scores move very slowly once you are established and throwing games alone wont accomplish the goal of "cheating the system" because your rating is attached to all of the people that you have played.
