Oh dear!

Clearly Filler was pressured by Matchroom to make that stupid statement.

Maybe but I doubt they made it mandatory. Some of it is copy shared by the WNT pros that made a statement. But not all WNT pros made a statement. And Filler added some extra verbiage to his post with the “I personally know how it is to be threatened by federations and them trying to put me under pressure and THIS NEED TO BE STOPPED.”

Not to mention Biado is still playing.
Yeah, I don't get this at all. Wasn't Biado "legit" banned by the ACBS, and thus the WPA had to enforce that ban world-wide? If that is true, and Biado is still in the field, then the boycott was for nothing.

his ban was supposedly to start after the World 8 Ball, was how I read his statement.

Mike Panozzo said that Biado is playing because his sponsor is also sponsoring the tournament. His sponsor put pressure on the WPA not to ban Biado.

As always, when you exclude the inconvenient data. Everything makes obvious sense... You make it seem like Ontario is/was the obvious choice merely based on it's population. Problem is, even with player dense area. The events struggle to reach 50players. The truth of the matter is that the CBSA (governing body) **didn't have any clout beyond Ontario's borders, (**things have been shifting). Probably the best thing going in organized pool within Canada is the East coast. I remember a couple years back they were hinting at maybe hosting the 8b out West. The much more popular game that way from what I've been told. Oddly enough it didn't happen. However the Lady's 8/9/10b ended up that way. Convenient hosted by a room ran by a couple of top Canadian female players.

Fortunately Quebec has taken an interest in hosting the 9/10b events. They did it last year, and I suspect it will happen again.
The Predator Tour here in Nova Scotia seems to gone over well and they had some good turnouts. I believe 103 local players at one event and it has been extended to New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario for the next season. The top 16 from each province will play a final in Montreal in May with $10K added.

I have a version of 8-Ball that I call Pass-Off 8-Ball that is I think more suitable at the pro level.
Open Table and Take-What-You-Make can be described as

Open Table --shooter following the break always shoots the easier suit
Take-What-You-Make -- shooter following the break half the time shoots the easier suit

Pass-Off --shooter following the break never shoots the easier suit

In Pass-Off 8-Ball, player at the table following the break may elect to Shoot or to Pass, and in either case opponent chooses the suit. So if I break and make a ball and solids look good and stripes look not as good but still OK, I will choose to shoot and you will probably assign stripes to me. If instead solids look good and stripes look hard, I will pass to you and assign you stripes. This seems a little confusing at first. But you get used to it quickly, and for runout players, including good amateurs on 7-foot tables, it makes 8-Ball much more interesting. It also makes short races more probative of skill rather than vagaries of the break. A good break still helps because you are more likely in the decision position. But it is far less important than in the traditional approaches.
I like this a lot.

It would be cool to have some chips created just for this to keep the communication clear and keep things moving. The chip would have the 1 ball on one side and maybe the 10 ball on the other. If player passes, he places the correct side of the chip on the rail as he walks away. Or incoming player does the same if he is doing the choosing. Limiting players having to actually talk to each other seems like a necessity especially in an international setting.

Great idea though.

I like this. I also like take what you make with a compulsory push out. I think the non-shooter shouldn't choose the suit - but I might convince myself that Pass Off is better.

Seems a little odd we have a tournament/series whose main sponsor is Predator, played on Pred. tables, yet has Yalin has signed-on as one of the major co-sponsors. Seems a little odd that one of their competitors for table sales is a sponsor. Maybe Pred. is planning on using Yalin to build tables for Asian market, who knows. BTW, Yalin is the co. that makes most if not all of Brunswick's tables including GC's and Anniversaries.

I suppose you could argue that with Biado playing, there is no ban in place, but I wonder what Yapp's situation is. He was banned from an earlier event (that he had already paid to attend) because Singapore had organized an unsanctioned English Billiards tournament.

maybe there was room for an exception since biado is a predator player.. 😉
