This person was in front of me on the highway. Couldnt tell if they put it on backwards. Maybe i am wrong, but i have never in my life seen a plate all shiny aluminum on the front.

I'm seeing a lot of these lately. Evidently they strip the paint, polish and clear coat the metal and run 'em that way. Looks like a good way to invite getting pulled over. Attempting to make a license plate unreadable is clear probable cause.

On a related note here in Wisconsin the DOT has taken to forcing drivers with older plates to buy new ones rather than just paying the annual renewal because they are concerned about the paint "fading". I've got plates hanging on the back of my garage (exterior) from the 1950s and 60s that have renewal stickers from the 80s with no fading whatsoever. Are they just using cheaper paint now, or do they just want the added income from plate sales rather than renewals? My guess is both.

Not backwards.
Yeah, it isnt clear because i snapped it while driving. but i agree. numbers seem to be facing the correct way.

I agree. and a completely stripped plate of all the color. I assumed the same, attempt to make it un scanable. In reality just makes it more likely to be pulled over.
I had to replace my plates in Ill a year or 2 ago. can't remember if i had to pay for new ones or they just sent them though. Either way they just keep hiking the sticker price every few years.

I used a polarized license plate cover for several years. I was warned once by a cop, but it prevents traffic cams. Those don't matter to me anyways because you have to be served or they'll be dismissed after 90 days, and I never answer my door to strangers.

I made that mistake once. Answered my door for some skinny young fella. My wife is the SVB of online shopping. He said "Are you Eric?" I said yes. He handed me my ticket and was outta there faster than I could even imagine! Yada, yada, yada, I beat the ticket in court. :D

That's interesting. you guys must have different laws in your state. I'm in Illinois. theres no one serving tickets in person here. they mail them.
Call them red light cams. and they cannot be ignored, they wont go away after 90 days. they have to be dealt with, and i hate them.
Tried fighting one i got years ago. theres a website where you can watch the video for your ticket.
Did my best to fight it. in the end i payed the 100 dollar fine.
I didn't notice till after i payed that i wasnt in the wrong.
The camera mainly moniters people turning right at a major intersection. It shows me pulling up while having a green turn arrow so i had the right away. But i slowed down because someone was making an illegal u-turn. so they gave me a ticket for not making a full stop when the arrow had turned red.

I almost edited that post to specify that that is an AZ specific law. I've had people try to serve them, they get automatically dismissed after 90 days from the original mailed date if they aren't served. That goes to the whole idea that they can't be sure you've received them. That's one reason why cops can arrest you if you don't sign a ticket. The signature is the promise to appear and the acknowledgement of receipt of the infraction notice.

Without a notice of receipt or someone that can verify you received it, how can they hold you responsible?

The sad thing is that they can serve ANY adult in your household and it's valid. They ask your name. I was out working on a car and they served my wife, they asked if I was Dana and I said nope. They gave me the papers anyways. I was so pissed I just about chased him down the block on foot (he was in a car), telling him, he hadn't served Dana. I then looked up the law and realized he could serve any adult at the home.

I still beat it... They sent the ticket in her name, but it was ME driving and in the picture. When they saw that she was female, automatically dismissed. I guess my big ole beard in the photo couldn't be mistaken for her. lol. She's also under no obligation to assist them in their investigation so doesn't have to say who was driving.
