One Pocket Timing

I started watching the Seniors One Pocket tournament at noon today. The score is 2 to 0 at 4:15 in the featured match. Race to 3. Varner vs Rutan. Both are playing excellent, even though they forgot the Grady Rule several times. By the time this tournament ends its name should be changed to The Super Seniors. While I do not mind a long match up between players, but for a paying spectator I lost interest.

I went and played, went two and out against two very good players. The problem is not the rules it is particular players who need a cattle prod to move things along.

TD needs to step in and cut these guys off at the knees. Nothing to do with Grady Rules. IN FACT, most matches, balls up table hardly came into play. Guys are much more aggressive now.

Varner just won.
I've had lunch, a nap, took a dump, and had
a late afternoon snack since this match started.
Last year I was watching Nick vs Ron when a table opened up next to them. I practiced for over an hour. I walked about a mile down the road for lunch. When I got back they were still playing.

I got to play Nick after their 6 hour match. In my match with Nick I shot at everything I could even see and Nick still took three hours to beat me 3-0.

If they don’t do something about Nick’s play I’m probably done with the Seniors event.

I think we are at a fork in the road with 1P

The Grady rule is good for TD’s and smooth running events.

I think the Grady rule sucks for $ games.

I think both rules have their place.

Fatboy <——-plays by the rules, and is too lazy to change the rules….🥱😴

No obviously the Grady Rule doesn't solve the slow play issue.

Fran Crimi knows what has to be done to eliminate slow play - eliminate the known slow players from the event.

OK, so the tournament flyer should have a section saying:

The following players are banned from this event due to their history of slow play:

Is that what you want?

We didn't go that far as to put someone on blast.

Just called them and said that they couldn't play in anymore due to their extremely slow play.

As a fast player , I have no problem with that. It may even prevent slow play.

Honestly I would have no problem with torturing slow players. They torture everyone they play.

Watching Corey play...by the time he's done inspecting the rack his opponent is paralyzed and so am I.... hate watching him

i think you put a time limit on each match
at x time
that game is canceled and they play 1 ball one pocket to decide who wins
So Larry, if I'm playing you and you are up say 7-0 and time runs out, you are saying you are good with now giving me a 50-50 chance to win by only making 1 ball? In effect, if I'm down that much with say 30 minutes to play or even 10 minutes to play, I'm certainly going into slowmo because I like my chances of making 1 a hell of a lot better than having to make 8 at that point. Not really, because I just don't play that way, but I think you'll get my point. The guy who is behind will almost certainly go for the sudden death with better odds.

I dont have the perfect solution to the problem
And not pushing that it is the answer
Just throwing an idea out there
Do you have any suggestions?
To answer your question
The guy with 7 for sure doesnt like it
But he should have won by now!
Also what if its 5 hours later and its only the 2nd game in a race to 3!!!!

is it an issue for today's pro one pocket though? the players are much more aggressive than older pros. the varner wedge and forever ball nursing are rare today, and very few good players are defensive oriented. chip compton comes to mind, but few others

then there'll be slow shooting players like morra but the shot selection is still often positive.
