So, if one of the "finalists" has a buy-back left, there might be two finals in that event. Is it possible to have the last two players each with a buyback?

It's not clear but it seems that the only matches on Sunday will be the three finals. (Or up to six finals.)

Is this a second extra day added (2 total), or 1 total day added? I recall 6 or so months ago they added an extra day then.

Yes, if one finalist has a buyback and the other does not, which is not often the case, 50% of the time, the final will be two sets. It happened this year when an undefeated Pijus Labutis met one-loss Filler in the 9ball final. Josh won two sets for the title.

Generally, if both finalists are undefeated entering the final, an extended race is played. It happened in 2020 when Corteza and Filler reached the 9ball final undefeated. Instead of playing two (and possibly three) sets, the played one race to 11 to decide the title. I suspect an extended race would, similarly, apply in one pocket or banks if both finalists entered undefeated.

In truth, the chance of even five sets on the final day is pretty slight.

In general, I love the idea of having a "Championship Sunday." Recent Derby City Classics have failed to build to a proper crescendo, and this should fix it, provided the first final begins early on Sunday eliminating the danger of going into the wee hours. on the final day.

That said, the challenge will be managing the schedule in a way that ensures that Saturday won't be a nightmare. Administrative changes are needed to ensure that the schedule is maintained over the first nine days of the event, and if the schedule is mismanaged as in the past two years, this can still go very wrong.

I applaud Diamond for this visionary change. I'm attending all ten days of the 2025 Derby City Classic. I can't wait!

Hopefully they have some things in place to avoid the nightmare scenarios on Saturday Sjm mentioned. I don't have a ton of faith that they do but we will see. It's my personal opinion that the 9 ball should start sooner in the week to avoid issues of the past. The one pocket catching all the blame is just not reality IMO. I'll be playing all 3 events Lord willing.

Specifically for "Championship final day"
I'd say this change has pros and cons.

The pro is for the fan. They can come just the last couple of days and watch great pool in person.

The con is for the amateur player that likes to play in one or two events (not expecting to do well), and watch one of the finals, before going home. Now they wouldn't be able to do that. I would play the banks and the one hole, for example, and catch the banks finals, then get the hell out of there. That would not be possible now.

Specifically for "1 extra day":
It's not enough. It will still be a huge clusterF. Need to limit the entries a lot, go back to race to 7 9 ball (which was only extended for WPA reasons 10 years ago), and put a time clock on all 3 diciplines.

DCC is modified double elim, you are allowed to buy back in after a loss. One time per event(9b, banks,1p)
To add to this, since Round Y one is not allowed but rather is obliged to buy themselves back. At least this is they way it has been lately.
Y might be R4 or 5, I don't recall.

This might be the most intellectually disabled decision that DCC has ever made.
WOW! What a bunch of morons.
What if one player is in 2 finals with buybacks? Is that fair given that they might have finished a previous final days before and gotten the chance to rest vs having to grind through multiple finals in the same day? Penalized for doing well?
Are they going to pay hotel and food expenses for the Banks finalists to stay they entire event just to play the finals the last day?
What if the Banks finalists only came for the Banks event?
Just when you think someone can’t possibly stick their head up their *ss any further, someone says “hold my beer”

That player will still be able to see the 10ball final.

An unmentioned positive is that Master of the Table will almost certainly be decided in the matches played on Sunday.

It has often been the case that a player has locked up the Master of the Table halfway through the completion of the 9ball, which makes the last nine ball rounds less important.

Very few in the history of the Derby City Classic have reached two finals, and those that have are mostly hall of famers and future hall of famers. With respect to the 2025 Derby, we're probably only talking about Gorst, Filler and SVB as threats to reach more than one final, and I doubt any of them would be bothered by the prospect of this happening.

This is Inconceivable. Winning the banks has always been the fast track to Master of the Table. Nobody good enough to win the banks passes on the chance to win Master of the Table, which nets them an extra $20,000.
