Vegas info.

Honestly it wouldn’t do me any good. I don’t get a room with a microwave or anything to heat it up. I guess if you get a suite or something that works.
Hell, my room two yrs ago had no Frig, so I did this.
I hung my food in a plastic bag ''in front'' of the AC outlet.
Turned the room temp to 60 and went about my business.
Later did the reverse.
Didn't have a microwave in that room, and if you wanted a frig + $20 a day.

Pool players, darters, cornhole, etc. need to treat the hotels better and we can move on from the Westgate. I see people drink beers and just put them right there where they finish. Trash bathrooms, trash the playing area, etc.

We won't get into a nice hotel like the pros, because we act like amateurs.
Apa is trying to find another place actually. The west gate doesn’t have enough room for them any longer

I used to go to the Shoe with John Morton (Rude Dog) and hit the $2 steak 2-3 nights a week, some nights his girl Jan would come along. Those are my best memories of Vegas. No BS all the glitz and glam that came 10-15 years later was fun, but the memories of Rude Dog and I running around town are by far my favorite.

I’m not sure who said it first “Vegas is the only place in the world you eat steak when you are broke” it was either me or John. I will forever remember that and him. What a time in life.

Funny how as we age some things seem to stand out more than others, that particular one is among my all time favorites.

Can’t buy moments of friends like John. Can always get a new car or house if you work hard enough.

Time captured some fantastic moments.

Hope your well Jay👍

Fatboy <———on a new chapter in life (post coming soon)
You and the Rude Dog were quite the twosome around L.A. for a few years. I never knew quite what to make of you, but you guys kept getting the dough! I'm results oriented so I noticed that above all the other stuff going on around you.

The real rub for me is paid parking and resort fees.

Give the customer a little edge as they have the mortal nuts in the casino.

The maximize profit at every interaction with a customer has went a bit too far imo.

Sure we have inflation and costs have went up on food & beverage, however paying $50 resort fees for a pool I’m never using and WiFi is bullshit.

I’m only speculating but I think MR choose Orlando for the Mcup as it lowered their production costs significantly.

Best
Eric 😃
They're all Take Off joints today as far as I'm concerned. I bet with my wallet and they don't get my action. Downtown is still the best deal in Vegas. I've had enjoyable stays at the El Cortez at decent prices (65-75/night and no parking or resort fee). Their coffee shop serves jam up food too at the right price points (good meals for two people in the $30-35 range). Clean room with frig and microwave, both a must for me. Yes, there are some sketchy people walking around outside but I grew up in the poolroom, so they don't bother me in the least.

There are still some nice clean motels where you can stay in Vegas (check online). Park right outside your room, no resort fees and close to shopping and food. Another well hidden secret - Fully furnished condos (one bedroom, fully equipped kitchen, nice pool and exercise facilities) can be had for the price of a hotel room ($125-150). I've stayed many times at the Desert Rose resort, across from the MGM. Like having your own apartment and yes to free parking and no resort fee! They are other similar deals to be had there. Screw the Strip and all the surcharges, plus a traffic nightmare.

Vegas lost its allure for me when the mob lost controll….they knew how to treat gamblers and civilians were safer then.
The bs started when Howard Hughes bought a casino and tried to run it like a business.
True that and the mob guys loved the pool players. They were there every night at the Stardust.

Re: El Cortez

My wife and I stayed in one of the renovated Original 47 rooms. That was nice, fun, and reasonably priced.

Walking around…. I don’t mind either, but one evening we were walking back after dinner at another downtown place. Metro and EMTs/coroners were dealing with a DOA in a doorway across the street. Life in the big city. RIP.

My radar is always up walking around downtown. I duck the crazies pretty good and can deal with the others. Even at my age people tend to leave me alone. I think it's my vibe. lol

I always recommend skipping the strip and staying downtown if you've been to Vegas before. More fun imo, better deals, lower limits etc. I wouldn't let the homeless and crazies deter you, there's just as much of that on the strip imo. Golden nugget and circa are both nice.

I own an apt building (50% anyways) about 3-4 blocks from the El Cortez , it was a super super bad area when we bought it in 2003. Now we don’t need a security guard any longer. We have had our fair share of problems associated with that area. 3 blocks to the east is still VERY dangerous.

In that area, be extra cautious.

I’d sleep in the car before I’d sleep in the apts we own.
