Mosconi Cup 2024, Nov. 30-Dec. 3, Orlando

Three matches.
A decent number. It's been pointed out on here that the current results could easily be different if two of these matches were won by the U.S. I agree. Scratching on the break and open tables from the break have been instrumental in what is now a 9-5 lead. From what I've watched it could "easily" be 7 to 7. Hey .... that's pool.

Agree on the pocket size. If every pro event had wickets this snug pool's late resurgence would stall out. even worse is that all the keyboard kowboy chat-warriors think that their home poolhall should have tables exactly like this. bad idea.
A good player to pro barely thinks about 4 vs 4.5 inch pockets. Only matters when another ball is blocking part of the hole or it's a shallow angle cut down the long rail.

We had 3.5 inch pockets on Gold Crowns back in the day and my room had a Chinese 8 ball table with snooker pockets....now that's tough.

I would love Marchroom to go back to behind the line on a scratch on the break. I know that would slow the game down so they probably never would. It sure would be more interesting.

I am agnostic on pocket size, not having played on 4-inch pockets.

Yet many top players, including SVB, Gorst and Filler, said they prefer tighter pockets on the WNT.

Whatever the case, the pros seem to have adjusted by and large. I don't want easy runouts, but I don't want excessively hard ones, either.
The tougher the equipment or the game....it favors the better players.

The fact that after a couple of years now, the commentators still have to tell the viewing audience which ball is the four and five. The correct ball colors have long been ingrained into our consciousness and do not need any interpretation. This may have been the single biggest insult to American pool that Matchroom has made. It shows a total lack of respect for a long standing integral part of our sport. To me ball colors are sacrosanct in our game. In other words untouchable!

Can you imagine changing the five ball in snooker to pink? The entire snooker world would go crazy! Of course Matchroom would never do that, would they.
If you go back and watch some old matches, I think you'll find the comms often referred to the "purple four"

Commentators have been calling out the color of the balls forever now. You can hear Jim Wych say, "the red 3" right around the 6min mark.

I have to say Alcaide may be one of the most underrated players in the pool world.
I myself always think of him as kind of a weak link on Europe's MC teams. But he has one of the best stats every year, makes good decisions, has great knowlege of the game and has a very solid all around game.
it's apparent that he, like the majority of euro's, don't have habits that have a negative, esp long term, impact on his game

he does have a habit of getting out when he's supposed to

Watching the Mosconi Cup reminds me of Soccer. Your best against our best. And, sprinkle in a few super stars for good measure. The Americans continue to field the same team and guess what.............same results. I certainly don't have the answer but play has to improve for the Mosconi Cup to have relevancy.

The U.S. play has improved dramatically this year. Their tactical play has been much better. They haven't opted for as many hero shots. The problem is -- they were just so far behind to begin with and have only one road to victory -- Gorst, Woodward, and SVB have to play great! Woodward has. The others -- nope.

Since we have a limited number of players, about the only thing that could help us -- would be naming the team much sooner and letting them play a few tune-up matches prior to the real show. They could do one tune-up verses some legends and a 2nd one against those left off the team. Just an idea.

Doesn't really matter, next year we probably won't have a Mosconi Cup.

It will be a Kremlin Cup, we love Russia/Putin now.

Sky messing up routine position from the pink to the purple nicely sums up why we're losing.

Europe took what they learned from the Reyes cup and it shows.

Watch the safety play closely it's exactly what Asia did to them
