Pool and drink

I don’t play well even on one beer. I suspect most others don’t either. Most folks I play that are drinking I beat pretty easily. Only one player in history had to have the drink to counteract a neurological disorder he had and that was big bill from Canada who was a snooker player. People who say they play good while drinking are delusional. Good compared to what I always ask them.
Big Bill was ranked #8 at the time. Amazing how much he consumed every day.

back in the day if i was tight/nervous i'd have one shot of tequila and a Bud. that's it and coffee/tea/water from there on. that took the 'edge' off but didn't get me off kilter. won a lot using that method. one thing i could never do is smoke ganja and play. couldn't play dead in a western behind that shit.
Can't make a ball stoned.

I was either climbing two or three hundred feet of iron hanging insulation and sheet metal or busting knuckles doing auto mechanic work when I was learning to play pool. The arm muscles would be tight by the end of the day, usually ten hours working. I found a couple beers got the arms to relax.

I played equally well drinking or not, I think because I learned to play pool drinking. Like most things I do, I eventually gave it close examination. No alcohol, I tended to shoot too hard and my risk tolerance was a bit high. With alcohol I soon wanted to win with minimum effort. I shot softer, I played patterns that minimized walking.

I spent a few months trying to decide if I played better one way or the other and I found my win rate to be the same. However, I realized that the best move was to play my drunk style while sober. This gave the best results.

Kinda hate to touch on this but some pro players who weren't known as hard drinkers or chemical players did do quite a bit of drugs. Would their records be better or worse without the drugs? We will never know! They are legends drugs and all.

Nodoubtaboutit.
Smart ones just better at hiding it.
I tend to shoot too hard and put on a show when inebriated. Self respect takes a hit.

Yes but when stoned, I don't care. 🤷‍♂️
In a cheap ring game I noticed a friend that was having fun and yet missing easy shots. As a joke I enquired, "Bob, what are you on and why aren't you sharing?" Oooops my mistake. Bob just reached in his pocket and pulled out his sneak a toke brass pipe with a flip top cover. He sereptishiously slipped the pipe and lighter to my hand as we stood close. He could hit it in the bar without detection. I had to slip into a stall in the men's room as I wasn't practiced at his method. This was when it was illegal. So after 1 toke I was in the same condition. Couldn't make a ball, but didn't care.
Back in the days when I was working labor intensive jobs, it took a couple of beers to get the muscles to relax. There was a time when 3 was the number for optimal performance. That was a long time ago. Now I satisfying the habit with Budweiser Zero. A non alcoholic that has a taste that I like.
Even in the days when 3 after work was the norm, I would go into a big weekend event with a beer, a cup of coffee and water at my table. One sip of coffee to wake up and any more would have me jangle. One pull on the beer to help calm as I headed to the table. The water was to fulfill the habit after the first sip. It worked for me. Absolutely No Weed when in a big event!

maybe you shouldnt drink when playing but drink as your pre-game get ready !!!!!
Doc Ellis threw a no-hitter on acid. Think about that for a sec. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/06/12/dock-ellis-acid-no-hitter-pittsburgh-pirates-anniversary

I did play softball on acid, Once.
My performance was error free in the field. Catching a line drive that was leavining tracer trails was interesting. At the plate I was right on my average with 3 for 4. I figured a way to play. I never could figure how I leaned against the cinder block dugout wall and just ended up on the other side. 🤷‍♂️

Cole provided entertainment while drinking Stole E's.
Not exceeding the limits was his decline......RIP Cole. I did learn a thing or three from Thee. 😉

That's in Reserve for the victory celebration. 😉
Henry Weinhards Private Reserve was a favorite. Haven't seen it in years. Our softball team had a beer distribution sponsor. We got it at cost. Oh those were the days! ☺

I overdid it a lot in my younger days but now I’ll have a shot and a beer and then switch to zero beer. I can’t drink shots and beer and then switch to water, coffee or soda, makes me sick to my stomach. The zero beer placates the taste buds, acts as a placebo, and I still get to go to the restroom every 15 minutes 🍺

I have drank in just about every tournament I’ve played. I tried one time not drinking in 1988 or 1989, and it wasnt fun.

Do I drink all the time? Nope. I can go weeks without having a drink, and rarely do I drink at home. Drinking has always been a social thing for me.

One of my partners played extremely well while stoned. Calmed him down and he'd hit a trance-like state.
My peripheral goes all to hell, not to mention hand/eye hits the crapper. Only on pot mind you. 😉

IMHO there is scientific facts that Alcohol in excess effect people ability to do thing as well as stone cold sober. Does one beer, glass of wine, or shot of hard liquor affects everyone the same He**, NO.

Must factor in person weight, age, body weight, medications they are one or not? Plus other factors.

So you the person who boast you can play Pool as good drunk, or stone cold sobers. That is great for you. One question when you are done playing Pool who is driving you home DRUNK, or are you good if caught driving drink, are you good dealing with the penalties from being caught driving drunk?

So, I am trying to understand why and the concepts of alcohol affecting the ability to play.

I am not talking about being drunk/drunk. Just talking about light drinking/drinks. But whenever I have some drinks in my system. I cant seems to play as well as I should ? However, other friends of mine can and some even play better.

Is there any explanations for such ?
Alcohol effects motor skills.
