Fix the Foot ...

I know the BigFoot 10-Ball Challenge is popular with many Derby attendees and viewers. But is it really worth 40% (4-days) of the Accu-Stats Arena table and live-streaming time?

And, how much is it really in demand? It’s limited to 16 players, doesn’t count towards Master of the Table, and deprives viewers of the opportunity to watch some world-class banks matches.

Plus, it doesn’t seem too fill all that many seats in the Accu-Stats Arena. The streaming host — Derrick Keith? — was constantly inviting fans in the main room to come in and take an Arena seat. The optics weren’t good.

Solutions? Well, strictly from an outside viewer’s perspective, I would shorten the BigFoot to three days, preferably two. Start a little earlier, and stay a little later. Because it’s single-elimination, the number of matches is limited. And since there’s a time clock, most of them are over fairly quickly.

This minor carping aside, I really love watching the Derby, and hope to attend another one someday.

I believe players care about games they can identify with because they play them -- n.o. b.o.d.y is playing on 10' tables.

I know from conversations with him that, at it's inception, Greg was hoping to popularize 10' tables with the Big Foot. But that ship has sunk. It's time to turn it into a reef for da fishes.

The International Open had a Bigfoot but it was limited to 8 players and two days. That was certainly much better for that set of events.

I agree. If I want to watch a game on a table that big, I'll watch snooker.

I can't really explain why but I've never had any interest in it personally. I play all the events at the derby and I'd rather watch any of those matches when I'm not playing. Don't really have a specific gripe with it just doesn't grab me. I will sweat a little if I find myself with a bet but that's about it.

2 days would be great too for the derby. Give those few folks who love it a reason to come before the 1p starts. And then we would have a 9' moved in and used for banks in round 6 as opposed to waiting until the finals.

Four players, let Joe Public vote on them and get it over in ONE day. Case closed. 8 MAX would be ok too. The key is speed, start one match right after the other. Keep the fans excited but get it over.

Granted I'll probably never get to attend or play at the Derby , however I'd love a chance to play a double elimination race to 11 of 8 or 9 ball even with no real chance of winning .
It's difficult enough to find 9' tables here in Montana for public use much less a 10' table that isn't a snooker table .

Some may say that's foolish of me but I've always liked a challenge and believe in nothing ventured nothing gained .

My heart aches at the thot, but the big tables are going the way of the dinosaurs. Perhaps there will be a resurgence in 50 years??
Guys will get tired of the simplicity of bar boxes and want the challenge of a big table.
I don't think you can develop a big table stroke learning and playing on small tables.
Just my 2¢, but the older guys know what I mean.
You can tell if a player has one. 3 and 4 rail position shots routine to bust clusters, clear balls, etc.
And for a player like me, just bcuz I can. 😁

As a player, I completely agree with this. There are no ten foot tables available to play on, so I can't relate or care.

It’s an opportunity, for the fan, to watch some rotation, while 1-pkt and banks are being played. Not overdoing it keeps it from interfering/overshadowing the actual tournament, which is 1-pkt and banks for the first four days. Still plenty of time for world class play in the AccuStats arena before 9-ball starts. I like it.

I sadly agree that public big tables are becoming a thing of the past as most places are concerned with making money the sooner the better and a lot of poker and keno machines can fit into the same space a 9' table takes up or even a 7' bar box for that matter .

I also have spent a great deal of time playing pool on a 9' table back in the days of Corner Pocket Billiards of America , doesn't that make me sound old ha ha

My local hall can put half again as many bar boxes in the same space they have 9 footers in now. Make more money. They say the only reason they don't do that is the clientele that plays there has been coming in forever and they won't change things for a few extra bucks. Very kind and noble of them, but as a business owner, where and when are you forced to draw that inevitable line??

Another way to look at it is how long does it take to play the average game of 8 or 9 ball at a cost of let's say .75 ¢ or even a dollar , compared to how long that will last in the average poker or keno game , sadly that's what brought down the Corner Pocket Billiards organization the original corner pocket is now a casino and liquor store .
Which I've not gone into in many year's but George Frank is there on a regular basis or was the last time I had heard .

It's a lot easier to sit on your ass in front of a video poker machine.
Sad but true.

Nope. Just experienced.
Wise.

i'm impressed by the play but can't relate to it. the straight pool challenge had more of my attention. having 8 players would make sense cuz guys like reinhold or eberle won't ever win anyway
When I started playing again all I heard was crickets when I mentioned 14:1, my game. Was saddened to hear nobody played it much anymore and all these changes overwhelmed me for a minute. Wtf was 10 ball?? Lol. One hole on a bar box?? Are you shitting me?? Wtf is carbon fiber??🤣🤣
Lost ball in the high weeds. Grab the round up boys. We got some weeding to do. 😂
