I know the BigFoot 10-Ball Challenge is popular with many Derby attendees and viewers. But is it really worth 40% (4-days) of the Accu-Stats Arena table and live-streaming time?
And, how much is it really in demand? It’s limited to 16 players, doesn’t count towards Master of the Table, and deprives viewers of the opportunity to watch some world-class banks matches.
Plus, it doesn’t seem too fill all that many seats in the Accu-Stats Arena. The streaming host — Derrick Keith? — was constantly inviting fans in the main room to come in and take an Arena seat. The optics weren’t good.
Solutions? Well, strictly from an outside viewer’s perspective, I would shorten the BigFoot to three days, preferably two. Start a little earlier, and stay a little later. Because it’s single-elimination, the number of matches is limited. And since there’s a time clock, most of them are over fairly quickly.
This minor carping aside, I really love watching the Derby, and hope to attend another one someday.
