Chuck Starkey wood pin in butt pool cues. (Is he still around here?)
Dufferin metal pin in shaft pool cues and snooker cues.
Brunswick metal pin in shaft pool cues, snooker cues, and carom cues.
Many antique pool cues have the metal pin in the shaft, and I have a few examples of those personally.

No, well not just those. This is an example.
Here is a Brunswick Tru-Skil which is a snooker cue, 60.5 inches. Maple shaft, brass pin in shaft, straight taper, very small tip, I think 10 or 10.5 mm if I remember correctly.
I do own one, but this one is not mine. I couldn't find my pictures. My shaft is in better shape.
