2025 USA National Pool Championships. Quincy, IL, July 6-12

The BCA sent out a message on May 18th which is when this thread started. That was the first announcement I know of. Still, that's not enough notice. Hopefully there will be at least six months next year.
On several of the posters, they had Corey Deuel's likeness shooting a shot. Corey Deuel and Brandon Shuff both were on the original list of players, but neither one competed in this event. My guess—and it is only a guess—is it was either a logistical reason or financial that they did not attend.

I have been labeled a "one of the talking heads in pool" and a "BCA basher" by a BCA admin person, and they are right. I have long bashed the BCA and its industry members for not supporting professional pool when this organization is supposed to be the governing body of North American pool. Now that they have stepped up to the plate with Master's chalk and created this event, albeit with not enough advanced notice, I am going to give credit where credit is due and not bash this event because of the low attendance. This is a national title in an event open to Americans only. I think it's pretty cool that they split up the $20,000 added to female pros and juniors along with the male pros. Bravo to the BCA! To compare them to established pool promoters with their lavish events at this juncture is not a fair comparison, and every single American pool fan should be applauding the BCA for their efforts. And to get a title winning this event is something to be proud of.

Well said. The BCA stepped up to the plate here and, even though this event generated insufficient interest with the American pros, perhaps this is the start of something big. Let's hope so.

Maybe they need Match Room's help to make it bigger ;)
Matchroom is certainly doing its share to grow pool in America. They have added a major championship called the Florida Open to be contested in Orlando in August. They will also renew their commitment to the SVB Junior Open at the upcoming US Open.

maybe predator. since they have begun doing eurotour, which in practice is euro exclusive, then why not an american championship?
Match Room have better marketing and can reach bigger audience, bring more money and atract more players.
Predator is a good sponsor but they do not produce events. The Eurotour is all EPBF.

The weird thing is that this event was limited to 32 players which is nothing compared to the number of players that you want in such event.

I think next year, if given ample notice, we’ll see even more amateurs. Which I don’t see as a bad thing.
I doubt it if the fields will stay limited to 32 players.
might be the reason why the top players didn't show up.
I don't buy the "I didn't know about it" crap. If we knew about it then so did they, it's their job to know these things.

Matchroom is on a mission to grow pool globally as a sport, as is Predator and WPA. Yes, Matchroom is having events in USA, e.g., Florida Open and U.S. 9-Ball Open Championship, but this isn't the same as, say, EPBF. the governing body of pool in Europe, which is a measuring stick of European talent, open to Europeans only. In this regard, the BCA organization has taken the first step to flex its muscle as the governing body of North American pool, open to Americans only.

This is what America needs to grow pool in USA. If you look at the Accu-Stats player roster in the '80s and '90s, America had many American pro-caliber players, much like Europe does today. In 2025, there existing lot of professional-caliber players in USA is less than a dozen. When it comes time for Mosconi Cup picks for Team USA, there aren't as many to choose from as there are for Team Europe.

With the BCA and BEF pushing the junior events, I'm hopeful to see the professional-caliber players in USA grow. With Master's chalk sponsoring this event in Quincy with four divisions, wouldn't it be nice to see the other BCA industry members do the same?

I do wonder why Corey Deuel and Brandon Shuff did not show up in Quincy. I don't think it's because the field was not full. On the contrary, it might be financially related and/or they had other commitments and, due to the short-notice of this event, couldn't attend.

In the men's 10-Ball, Dominguez and Bergman played each other this afternoon in their third round. Oscar trailed 1-4 but came back to win hill/hill with a B&R in the final game. That puts Oscar into the single-elimination stage and sends Justin to the qualifying round on the losers' side, where he is playing Max Eberle now.

Honestly, we could not expect anything grandour, specially since the BCA has been out of the pro pool game for what? 2 decades now?

IMO, this says a lot about the current group that tried this. Next year, if they go with another edition, they will need to overhaul their marketing strategy. I'm sure we all want something like this to succeed but again, they have a ton of work to do if they want to be taken serious in the pool world.

And let me just add this. IMO, there is no need for both 9 ball and ten ball to be contested at this event. They need to just stick with 9 ball as it is the game being sticked with as the pro game.

maybe they have both disciplines for WPA championship reasons, meaning the winners get a spot in the respective world 9b and world 10b champs? that would make sense.

The venue looked great in my opinion.
This scale of event costs a lot of money.
They need more big sponsors in order to afford a longer tournament that will allow for a bigger player’s field and bigger prizes.

I want to say “baby steps” but that’s just sounds weird as America should be leading this and not trailing behind.
But it is what it is and got to start somewhere and hopefully it’ll grow.

Top players should understand that they will benefit from this in the future and they should play their part and show up, even if the prizes are not that great at the beginning.
Money comes and go, titles stay forever. National titles should not be about money but it is a good incentive.
