World Pool Championships 2025, July 21-26, Jeddah

this has been the hardest fought WC i can remember. big names falling (some early too), matches going hill-hill or very close. it seems like 12 or 13 of the last 16 will be players who have never won a MR major title. that says something about what a tough field it is

When the score was 9-9, Casper running out on Shane, right before he shot the 6 ball, he stopped and looked over to his right. Then he slammed the chalk on the rail three times. What happened? Does anybody know? Did somebody try to shark him?
At the time I thought he was trying to get the ref's attention, then was irritated that he couldn't. Who knows!

Good match though a couple of SVB's misses looked like pretty standard shots. One, an outside english cut shot to a corner from near the spot missed the target by inches and was played at a force I thought unlikely to skid. 🤷‍♂️ Thought he might claw it back in the end. But Poolmanis will be happy :)

Casper just won his first European Championships and that was 9-ball so definitely he is on a run this year and can go all the way. Come on Casper, such pressure runouts the last two!
And he's only 27. Really this is his prime. I love his naturally blond hair. :)

Those who have been watching Casper since his early ages might argue that he is past his prime :p Was either in decline and/or off the game for a while, but last 2-3 years he is back on the rise, and this is great news!

Seven pinoys at top 16! When money is enough attractive they show up to grabe it.
What happened to A. Ouschan, J. Filler, SVB, E. Kaci? Was it a poor performance or they were out played?

Maybe the Asian players are used to playing in hot humid rooms, and late at night.

I know some European players were complaining about how late the matches were starting.

That was a superb day of pool.

Congratulations to the 16 fine players that remain, including three guys that have won both the World 9ball and the US Open 9ball (Biado, Ruiz, Gorst) and 1 guy that has won both the World 10ball and the US Open 9ball (Ko Ping Chung). On first inspection, one of these four proven champions should win the title, but the match results have been all over the place so a lot of guys can win.

Now we know who Ameer Ali is, and he is a highly skilled player. Patric Gonzales was not on my radar at all until today, but he is on it now!

I'm not surprised by seeing Regalario and Roda still in with a chance. In my 2024 recap post, in the section about which players improved the most, I wrote "Labutis, Chua, Roda, Regalario and Maciol took big steps forward."

Who's the longshot with a chance? I think it might by Konrad J, whose super-straight cueing translates really well to tight pocket tables.

Tomorrow should be great!

I actually trolled Casper hard when he came our Open tournament(because i still could..)

Said : " congratz your European 9-ball Championship win! Maybe some day you can beat me too😂😂"

Because last time before European Champs i beat him on quarter finals Boeing 4-7 down and then i played perfect and won 9-8..
