World Pool Championships 2025, July 21-26, Jeddah

Very impressive performance by Ameer Ali! That guy has nerves of steel.

Horrible loss by Casper, by missing a 9 ball ;( I think the nerves might have finally caught up to him?

On the other table matches, I would find it extremely distracting to have a referee say "10" and then "5" a few seconds later after each and every shot? It's seems like only 2 seconds go by, not 5 seconds.

this is probably a bigger scandal than "waxgate", they're totally stroke pulling with that mistimed "5" and will for sure have affected match outcomes

I've seen several of them, Casper included, who deliberately wait until they hear that 5 second callout before pulling the trigger.

It should be done like accu-stats does it, once they are down on the shot, the clock should stop.

FSR won, but if Casper hadn't dogged that last 9 ball and had been breaking at 9-10, FSR would've been thinking about his terrible position play from the 6 to the 7 when he was on the hill. It looked like he couldn't make up his mind whether to pound the cue ball cross table to get on the left side of the 7, or drag it down the right side in order to shoot the 7 in the lower left. Instead he wound up half heartedly going for the drag stroke and nearly snookered himself behind the 8, giving him little option but to leave himself with a very difficult out, which he then failed to complete. Lucky for him that Casper left himself with a relatively tough 9 ball shot in the final game and then missed it badly.

Nice playing from Kledio.

Down to eight and the next round brings us Ko Ping Chung vs Carlo Biado, so one of the giants will fall.

Think I'll go and get some lunch and I'll be back in good time for the quarterfinals.

that's a tough match for kledio coming up. but these guys are all in good money now. 27k for having advanced, 50k if they win their QF

already the biggest payday for two or three of them

I wasn't able to watch a lot of the games so far, but just looking at the draw and reading through the thread here, a few thoughts came to my mind:

First, even a mediocre playing Gorst is still strong enough to beat most of the players out there. And eventhough snooker comparisons often don't fit very well with pool, this reminds me of Ronnie, who often had slow starts into a WC, a few scares on the way and in the end still played the best when it most mattered.

Second, eventhough guys like Albin, SVB or Filler went out early. There are three world champions still left in the tournament, which shows that there is something special about this typ of players when it most matters.

Third, after the Philipines Poland might be the country with the highest density of pool talent today. And still...somehow they always fall short on the biggest stage.

And last but not least, every WC in the past years has this one player like Ameer this year, relatively unknown but plays great and with a lot of heart but sadly in the end it is one of the big names who takes the trophy home. I wonder if we will see the new Daryl Peach this year.

Emily Fraser talking about the Reyes Cup will be Asia vs the World this year.

It shouldn't be Asia vs the World, it should be the Philippines vs the World, or stop calling it the Reyes cup.

The Philippines can take on the rest of the world.

not a fan of that format change. but on the other hand US players would never get to go to the reyes cup, which after all is a perk for the tour players.

more important is what money is in play?
