World Pool Championships 2025, July 21-26, Jeddah

Comparing old Worlds and contemporary Worlds is another story but I respect the titles. I have to add that this year’s 9-ball WC was filled with so many good players and the field was super tough I would have to give extra credit to Carlo for winning it and also to Fedor for back-to-back finals. I feel that these two are at the top of the food chain at the moment in addition to Filler.
Yes, well said. I think the World 9ball has had three eras:

Pre-1990: not on a par with contemporary World 9ball, lacked sufficient international diversity
1990-2010: super tough to win, very nearly on a par with today's World 9ball
2011-present: the super-elite, internationally diverse event it has become

I omitted Earl's two titles pre-1990, but he still has three World 9ball titles.

Gorst losing is good news for Filler, Joshua was in danger of falling behind Gorst.

As things stand, Josh just needs 1 to tie up with Fedor.

But Filler needs to work on his game, he is nowhere near the same player.

He can't keep living off his reputation.

Wake up. Josh is having a great year. At rotation games in 2025, he has won the Derby City 9ball, the Estonian Open, the Longoni Open, and the European Open. Gorst is still without a 9ball or 10ball title in 2025.

Josh, Fedor, and Shane all have two WPA sanctioned World Championships. Carol has three, including his World 10 ball title. All of them have also won at the US Open. Josh has three China Open titles, while none of the others have managed even one. Josh has a World Games gold medal, a UK Open title and a European Open title, while none of the others have any of them.

Unless we are talking Earl's eight "major" majors (3 World 9ball, 5 US Open), there's no catching up to be done. Shane's got 7, (1 Word 9ball, 1 World 8ball, 5 US Open), Josh has 6 (1 World 9ball, 1 World 8ball, 1 US Open, 3 China Open), Fedor has three (2 World 9ball, 1 US Open), Biado has 4 (2 world 9ball, 1 World 10ball, 1 US Open). It might be too late for Carlo and Shane to pass Earl, but Josh and Fedor are young and may well pass him one day. Yes, they are that good.

The name "Gorst" is pronounced with a short 'o' sound as in "gorse" or "gross" and then the "st" sound. It is not pronounced with a long "o" sound as in “go”

Ummm.

Gross and go have the same long ‘o’

I don’t know a common English word ‘gorse’

I mean, it exists, but maybe use another word for an example and comparison.

‘Hot’ has a short ‘o’ … are you saying it’s that pronunciation?
Ok I see what you are saying - that’s confusing. That’s copied and pasted from a Russian translation.

If I go to another Russian name pronunciation it says this - When pronouncing the Russian last name "Gorst", the key is to remember that the "o" is unstressed and closer to an "a" sound in English.

Gorst: Therefore pronounced closer to "Garst"

Hard to keep you edge when you are so good that you can't get played....plus you do dumb shit to get banned.

Biado has 3 WPA championships in total, He is the current 10 ball champion.

I always gave the US Open 9-ball more credit than the world title until sometime in the teens. The early ones felt like cheese titles.

He's an American now so lets call him Fred and pronounce his last name just as its spelled.

It's bad marketing in the USA to try and pronounce his name in Russian. It never works for international athletes and won't work for pool players.

It took awhile for people to realize Shane is American with his name. South Dakota nickname was so nobody mistakes him for a European.

Dear Stu. There is one (and the only) man standing behind Fedor's success (apart from himself being such a hardworking player and striving to be an athlete). His name is Johan Ruysink. He is a European.
Johan Ruysink. What a brilliant human being. If only he were my next door neighbor. If only. I'd dig a tunnel to his training room while he was sleeping.
