Yeah, it was the grandparents for LW, my parents were more the Hee-Haw type.

I liked Hee-Haw. I didn’t admit it to my friends at the time. But between Hee-Haw, the Beverly Hillbillies, and Andy Griffith, I developed a soft spot for country pickers. One time I was listening to Bob Dylan. My mom came up to me and said, “You know that’s country music, don’t you?”

Growing up it was Lawrence Welk , Hee Haw , Walt Disney , ABC Wide World of Sports , Wild Kingdom , The Beverly Hillbillies , Andy Griffin Show , of all the folks I've worked for or with Ron Howard and his family are some of the nicest I've ever met when I worked on the set of Far and Away !

Tom Cruise to me was a close 2 nd we were on a first name basis even , Nicole Kidman not so much but that was ok as well we all had a job to do so it was all good .

I have a buddy who was a promoter for Columbia Records…he had a lot of gold records on his trophy wall. He was asked by a radio interviewer what Buddy Rich and Lawrence Welk had in common….he replied “Music.” But when I was a kid, when this guy started playing, I would find something else to do.
