I would like to know if Gus always used the same tip or if it was customer preference. If he used the same kind, what was it? Thanks

Al, I am not certain if did or didn’t use the same tips. But, I would bet that he either used Le Pro or Triangle cue tips. In the late 60s and through the 1970s they were very popular. In addition there wasn’t a large selection of tips around like today, so I suspect that’s what he used, I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.
Try a pressed Le Pro medium leather tip, you might really like it!!!
I had several tips put on by Gus back in Jersey and they were always Le Pro tips.
If he had any others I dont know.

If you needed a new tip you just had one put on rarely even asking what brand it was,same with chalk you just used want the room had mostly Masters.
The game was simpler back then.

I tried to press a LePro tip in a cheap Harbor Freight vice and I cranked it tight and the vise cracked!I use to press them in a vise for 24 hours!!

When Hobo Freight (I do love them
) asks me if I want to buy the extended warranty I just tell them when it craps out I will just throw it in the garbage and come back and buy another. Actually broke one of their vises as well but it did last for a bout 15 years and broke with I had a 5' bar on the crank

I'm really not sure who made them, they came in a plain box with a red label that just said Champion and made in France beware of imitations
