Ebony and Maple, No Veneers

I bet a cork wrap would look outstanding on this cue. A black wrap would also look good. The red isn't bad but I'm not a huge fan. I doubt it would bother me enough to change it but if you're looking for a project I think it would improve the look.
I did get it as a potential project with the idea to make it fit in with my group of ebony/maple cues.

Great looking cues, and nice photos. I really love that series of Mali Cues. Green label Malis like yours are known as the M-series and they were produced, from 1984-1985 and they are beautiful playing cues. I have bought and sold many of them overs, like you I love them, the craftsmanship in these cues was fantastic at the time, and they were made in the United States at the Mali Factory. The Mali factory in the United States was open from 1961 until 2001, all cues after 2001 are Chinese imports, and they are unfortunately poor quality, unlike your cues.

Here is the my favorite M Model, it is a M-15 the most expensive cue the came out of the M-series like your cues

Here are some very nice ones of the same series with inlay on EBay.

2. This cue was the first cue in the series. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3762714907...d=link&campid=5335988529&toolid=20001&mkevt=1
Actually, I think I have a couple or three M-15 cues as well as a few other of the "better" Mali Cues. I'll probably dig them out for pictures soon. That one is certainly a beautiful example. I am pretty sure I have an unusual one with figured ebony and one jet black like that.

Love the old Mali cues.

I'll get to it. Gotta do some digging.

In the meantime I am going to settle the decision on this wrap. I'll get before and after pics if I change it.

You know, I was thinking about that Wrap. It might also look good with White Irish linen with green spec, similar to the original Courtland #9 used back in the day.

We have a winner!

There have been many great suggestions, and some interesting thoughts about why certain types of wraps and colors would work.

Partly because it is what I like, and partly because I want to contribute to the theme of the group of cues I am putting together, I am going with black. I am going to dye the current wrap. Depending on how it looks and feels I will decide on whether I will put an additional finish on it. Options will include sanding sealer, carnauba wax, or one of the leather finishes I have, among other possibilities.

So, likely the next picture I post here will be the cue with a black wrap. After searching the web, I can't find a single pic of an E-K1 with a solid black wrap at all. That surprised me at I thought I would at least find one with black leather.

Thank you all for contributing!

Oh, and if I screw it up, we are starting this whole adventure over. LOL! 🤪

Very cool bunch of players there Doc. I'd be proud to call them my own.
I do have a few cue holes in my closet queen that need filled...
🤔😉
Really nice work.
Thank you!

Your closet queen's holes likely can't handle the BBC (Beautiful Black Cues).

But if you pick up a can of Krylon spray paint you could fake it.
