Kielwood Shaft Search

Okay, let me rephrase that, the majority of dollars being spent by consumers in the pool community have decided that these prices represent fair market value… Sorry to have lumped you into an unfair generalized statement before.
I agree 100%. You can't call products 'overpriced' when they consistently keep selling. The market sets the price not the minority that refuse to buy because they think an item is too high. Pool is riding a crest right now and demand is outstripping supply on a lot of items.

Call me curious or maybe just EXTREMELY bored but did that cat ever find his unicorn shaft? Been around a few 'cue junkies' and a bunch of monster players in my life but i've never heard of being so picky as to shaft specs. If he plays bad does he blame it on the shaft being .00000000000000000000000000001 ounces off?? ;)

He found it!! Actually found 3. Ain't that a bitch!! I can't find my glasses.

Folks, I have played with the Tsunami, both versions. My buddy had the original for 18 months and sold it to get the 2.0 with the phenolic insert to protect the threads. It is a very nice shaft but it’s usually about 1/2 oz. lighter (flat face design) than I want, especially in a 29”length, costs hundreds more than I paid and lead time is silly. This isn’t a mere pool cue being built.

But cue makers also vary in lead time so if you really want a Hercek cue, then the decade wait won’t be unacceptable.
The same applies to Tsunami KW shafts. Personally, I prefer to save money and time if the end result is acceptable and
since I have done this, I already know that less expensive and quicker are perfectly suited for ordering a KW shaft built.

Cory Barnhart……12.85mm……3.81 ozs……. Flat Faced ( 29.5”) …..my 1st KW shaft
Jim Pierce………..12.75mm…….4.15 ozs…….Flat Faced (29”)
Jim Pierce….……..12.6mm……..4.0 ozs………Flat Faced (29”)

No weight inserts or receiver, just wood, 5/8” ferrule and Kielwood…….It pays off to be persistent and I’m delighted.

No I never blame my equipment but am inclined to sometimes attribute it to debilitating injuries that would discourage most folks from even trying to play pool if they had two broken wings that don’t flap any more and cause lots of pain.

I ain’t making this shit up……my pool game suffers from a workers comp case that remains unsettled for 16 years.
You have to love pool a lot more than most people to play with pain in both shoulders. There are repetitive tears after
many surgeries. I’ve already undergone 1 surgery to my left shoulder & right knee and 4 surgeries to my right shoulder.

So when I miss a shot, which every reader does, I never have blamed my equipment. I have way too many other valid
reasons from infirmities and injuries to justify blaming it on my pool cues or now my new heffty Kielwood shafts.

I wonder if making a heavy KW shaft without any inserts means that the wood is not torrefied enough to get all the moisture and other compounds out and keep it at a certain weight.
is there such a thing? a half baked KW shaft?

I wondered about that as well. Let's hope not. Ask a Cuemaker.

You may be right…….do you think a dark color shaft, like Tsunami, has less moisture from being roasted longer?
Generally moisture is reintroduced in the process of torrefication that typically is 3-4% or the shaft is too brittle.

The cue makers I located that are capable of building a heavy flat faced KW shaft took me months searching to find
any that didn’t add weight to the shaft so many other builders told me they needed to do to meet my specifications.

So maybe skor has brought up something that explains how this gets done but Jim told me the only thing he has to
do is start with a suitably heavy blank that he meticulously weighs and segregates by categorization in his inventory.

Perhaps SCDiver2112, who’s conquered building 4 oz. KW shafts, can comment since he actually builds cue shafts.
All I know is Jim and 2 other cue builders told me it is not difficult at all when you select a suitable heavy weight blank.

It could also be those other cuemakers you contacted that said no way, just didn't want to take the time to find a heavy blank and walk it thru. That might disrupt the flow of a cuemakers shop to the point whereby they just don't feel like messing w it, and tell you it can't be done.
Just a thot.
