Was it a mistake to get a unilock playing cue? It keeps making a rattling noise whenever there is vibration.

I bought a Predator Roadline with a Revo shaft and unilock joint about five years ago. Over the last year it started to make a rattling noise occasionally after off-center hits. Now it does that very frequently, and recently it got to the point that it does it regardless of where the cue ball is struck. It even rattles in my hand sometimes when I just move the cue.

Anyone know whats causing it and how to fix it? It’s really annoying.

No, I've had mine, an SPJLW, with gen 1 shaft, for 20+ years. I bought it new. It shoots good as new. Never "came loose" except when I did it. If you bought yours new, contact Predator. Otherwise, take it to a local mechanic, or send it to Proficient or Predator. Or sell me the butt cheap.

I shoot with 2 different predator cues a sneaky Pete and a break cue both with the inter loc joint with no trouble with each .

I'll be following this to find out what is the cause of this , keep us posted !

Check you weight bolt because I have only heard ghost stories about how uni-lock pins come undone and rattles with no proof EVER.
I've had various brands of unilocs for ~15 years. The only time I've had one come loose was when either the joint pin or shaft insert were dirty or had debris in them.

The weight bolt would be my first guess. If it's not that, it's probably a manufacturer defect in the butt or the shaft.

Try using a Qtip and some alcohol and clean both parts of the joint

Seconded, my Roadline did the same and it was the weight bolt.

I've had many UniLoc cues (my 15yo Predator is still perfectly tight). The key - as with any joint - is to keep it clean. I also cast a little "pen" out of bike chain wax and will put just a lil bit of that on the threads after cleaning them. Keeps them from getting sticky or squeaking.

I've had several uni-lock cues and I did not like the way they hit.

I've been using Uniloc for over 20 years with zero issues. One butt/shaft combination was in use for at least 18 of those years without ever having the issue you stated.
My uni-lock Lucasi never binds or comes loose,I do clean the threads and insert about once a year with a Q tip dipped in alcohol.
The weight bolt did come loose once and a good tightening fixed that.
It's 16 years old and still straight and the finish is like new.
Lucasi makes a fine cue.
