Muscle up « and » play pool!

I can't play the day of or after a heavy shoulder or chest lift due to soreness/tightness, but in general once your body adjusts to lifting it should recover more quickly and your game should come back. Strength - especially core strength - is a big part of the game. You're not going to play well if you're off balance or have extra body movement. Not to say it's a requirement, but it definitely helps. Also helps to keep yourself out of the way... :ROFLMAO:

Oh, I forgot to mention a very relevant anecdote from my time at the 2023 US Open: I hit the gym at the hotel in the evening of Day 1 and guess who walks in? The three Ko brothers and later, Konrad Juszczyszyn. They weren't doing just cardio either, they were all lifting weights, like bench pressing dumbbells, etc. I chatted with all of them a bit and Konrad mentioned that it's a real sport so you might as well train like it.

Many Pool players are are big boys, some of the great were big boy.

Recall a guy who was regular in Practice Area at the Old Rivera. Fat Ralph from El Paso Texas. Size did not hinder man.

Being fix it a good idea, but some people do not by into late lifestyle.

Working out daily, eating right, no drugs, no boozes, just clean living.

Eating heathy cost more then eating unhealthy.

You sure?
My grocery bill only goes up when I buy junk and processed stuff.

It ain't the price, it's all that hard work cooking and prepping 😂

Lost of Pool players live out of Car or motels, most dont cook.

That group live on what is easy, fast, and cheap.

I don’t earth much I do not scratch cook. Good ingredient are not cheap.

Prices of fast food is nuts, family of 4 dropping 30-40 buck at McDonalds is crazy

If traveling by car and staying in motels they can afford a crock pot and a hot plate. International travelers should be able to afford a clean meal.

They don't have to eat bad.

Good ingredients can be cheap. If you are used to Chez Panisse, maybe not.

Fast food prices are crazy, don't eat it 😂

Your comment are correct, but some people are lazy.

Hell some people let Pro-Shiper at WalMart pick their groceries.

Our Military Commissary offers Pro-Shopper also.

cocoloco still thinks its 1980.

Key points:

1) Be flexible. You can be a hulk but still able to do the splits and bend over forward with both palms on the floor. The guys you see wearing their tight middle-school sized tee-shirts and walking like they have a bad rash under both armpits are simply put: pathetic. Their biggest muscle is their ego.

2) Aerobics. Sometimes tourneys can go long and stamina fades. It's important to be conditioned - mentally and physically.

3) Diet. Eat healthy often and don't be afraid to smuggle healthy items into a pool room, even if you have to eat them outside or in the good 'ol stall. Beer and pretzels are never a good choice when it's 11pm, you're on your 11th game of 10 ball and waiting for a match table in the finals - against a Fargo 680.

Jo Rogan has said he doesn’t think lifting and pool go together.
He has got in my head. I recently started the gym , middle age guy , not big muscle guy but I do some weights. Since then I am playing terrible.

What are your thoughts on this. I’m expecting to hear from some big lads who are also high Fargo rates so I çan set my mind straight again 😂
I used to be a big guy, and always worked on cardio and flexibility as well, since I also played golf. I believe, all things being equal, being stronger and maintaining or improving flexibility will improve performance in any sport.

Why would anyone care what Jo Rogan says about the subject?

This may surprise you but hand and forearm strength is vitally important to being a good player. Build your grip strength and your stroke will be better.

I wonder if you can still go to a pro tournament and see many of the top players working out in hotel gym in the morning. I remember seeing Mika, Thorsten, Niels and several others working out early in the AM when I on my way to breakfast.

Love that Jay! MJ used to lift the morning of gameday because he knew he needed to train his body to be able to shoot while tired. Pool isn’t as cardio intense as basketball, but there’s definitely parallels to the endurance needed to grind out matches and tournaments and I think lifting is important. In addition to stability longevity strength and endurance, it’s also oxygen inducing for your brain. But so can be said for cardio

Include Jayson and Tyler on that list.

Monti my only advice, less is more at our age. I’m middle aged and still do resistance training religiously. Just remember you can make gains by using a small amount of weight, but make it heavier than hell by going sloooooowwwwww. Don’t injure yourself trying to lift big for short reps too frequently. Put in the time and you’ll make gains, and your pool game will catch up!
