What’s the stupidest reason someone has given for welching out on pay?

I was playing a low stakes set, 8-ball, and trounced the guy 9-1. Equivalent value of about 50$.

Apparently, the chalk mark (which I hadn’t noticed) on my break cue is an aiming aid, and then classified it as cheating and a reason not to pay

He noticed it in the first rack apparently, to which I naturally replied SPEAK UP THEN - offered to match up again, same stake, and he declined…

It went 3 break and run, I missed and he ran out, then 2 racks to me - quite brief, 3 break and run, last rack to me after cleaning and losing position on the 8, then hiding behind it.

He endured some great banter, I’m not sure how far to push it to be honest, ‘losing face’ is taken quite seriously in Asia. Don’t fancy getting stabbed in the eye.

Not an unprecedented move. I used to mark my shaft so I could know which way was up. At the start of a match, a pro player complained to the TD that I had an illegal aiming aid. He was told to go play his match. I put a mark next to that player's name on my list.

Nah. I think @Flakeandrun will do better to avoid contact with the irresponsible, confused nit. I suspect that asking for money on the light or someone holding the stake would be interpreted as an insult or worse. Face is a large issue in that pool hall.

in US casinos, parimutuel gambling isn't really guaranteed- that means, simply, that someone can go to a poker room, shove their stack in blind, lose, proceed to pick up their chips, and leave without being down a cent. The casino will likely follow suit with a piece of certified mail, but there really isn't any recourse for the sorry sap who decided to call it down. Let it be a lesson to anyone who makes a handshake bet with a stranger over promises.
