Two Earl stories...
At the 14.1 event at Steinway in NYC where Earl had the "interesting discussion" with Jayson Shaw about the calling of a shot, the table sponsor was Rasson. The TV table didn't arrive until just before the quarter finals or so, and the table guy worked hard to set it up. It was the V-shaped model. It was very interesting and maybe the first pool table Rasson had ever made. The side pockets were smaller than the corners, which were pretty small for 14.1 already. (Side pockets are usually half an inch larger than the corners.)
In the first match on the table, Mika Immonen and Zion Zvi -- both pretty good players -- struggled to run 28. In the next match, Earl ran 135 and out. He didn't care how small the pockets were.
In one of the US Opens in Norfolk, I was the area ref for six tables. One match was Earl against Josh Roberts. Josh was playing pretty good and got ahead of Earl. Earl started his chat stream with the audience, and made a partial comeback. Leading about 9-6, Josh decided to take his break. Before he left on his break, he asked Earl to please stop talking while Josh was shooting. After Josh left the area, Earl packed up his stuff and left, saying nothing to Josh. The audience was not happy.
