It's always the Indian Boyz and Girls

I can shoot the lights out with a mop handle if I had to. Doesn't mean I want to.

I would never say a specific cue makes me shoot better. But damn if some cues don't just feel better in the hands..
A lot of it relates to confidence when it comes down to equipment. Past successes vs failures, etc... if you like the axe in your hand, chances are you might play a wee bit better than with a strange cue, but for those fortunates who are battle hardened and can adapt to whatever is in their hands at the time, that doesn't apply.
Mental toughness. Unconscious competence.

I always despised that expression. Yeahhhh it IS more about talent of the player or whomever it is in whatever field of endeavor. As a comparison though, look at race car drivers, they can all drive well, but they’re going to be quite a bit better behind the wheel of a Ferrari than in a Ford Escort.

I think motorsports is an outlier where the result is more heavily weighted towards the equipment than the human. Pretty sure if you put me in a Ferrari against Lewis Hamilton in a milk float I'd win. Not sure there is any other sport where bad equipment can completely negate skill. Give Tiger Woods the worst set of golf clubs in the world he's still going to beat an amateur with good equipment. And think that would be true for 99.9% of sports, a good amateur with great equipment has no chance vs a pro with poor equipment.

I played some of the best pool in my life with a 18oz bar cue that had a slight ting from a loose screw at the bottom (or maybe that was the other stick.) Either way, playing with a borrowed cue, a house cue, or your favorite cue, it's still the shooter.

Can you work the magic you've worked with your daily player using a borrowed stick sure, will it happen all the time probably not, because of your comfortably level with your daily player.

I feel lucky that my daily player is also my breaker, masse'r, one pocket, and 9 ball stick. No jump cue. The stick is just unreal. Wait for it,

It's a monster.
The highlight of my trip was my hill / hill win against a strong player to win one of our matches. Felt like redemption after choking in Vegas 15+ years ago. As I said, I was unconcerned with the cue for what it's worth.

Also, for those wondering why I was borrowing a cue...I didn't trust the airlines with my beloved custom. See! I DO enjoy expensive custom cues after all and invested plenty in the one in my avatar. After my divorce last year, perhaps my custom remains my one true love

So, you fellas can see that I'm a walking contradiction. So be it. It's all fun and games anyway.

PS. Here's the hill / hill game @ 1:23:40 in this link. Pretty boring for everyone but me....and damn that scratch in the side off the break, I didn't figure to get another chance at the table...actually I got double lucky when he brushed the 3 and shot a combo that put him in a bad spot (still, nice combo Mr. Um). But I got lucky and won all three of my games in that match...yippee. I was all amped up and over hit a shot to play the balls on the short rail next and had to re-group. So it goes.

PSS...I HATE pool jerseys...but I like the one my team designed...even though they spelled my name Neal instead of Neil. But who really cares. Life is short, why bother.

PSSS...actually, maybe life is too long for expensive beer...hmmmm...

Troll post of the week nominee...lol. I'll bite. I can play fine with either. I had someone comment just the other day that based on my video I posted it looks like I would've run out with a broom stick. That doesn't mean the advantage that technology provides isn't real. Consistency can be measured in fractions of a percent and confidence in your equipment can be the difference between winning and going two and out.

When I was in Viriginia years ago and went to meet up with and play with, crap I can't think of his handle now. He was dating Pink Lady and she lived with him at the time. An older friend of his had a really nice traditional cue at the time and I was explaining BHE to them. The older gentleman stated that he just couldn't adjust to low deflection and I explained the pivot point and he let me shoot with his cue. I shot a few shots to find the pivot point and then ran out a rack and they were both surprised that I could pick up a cueand adjust to it and use it with lots of side spin that quickly.

Knowledge and experience are the ultimate arbiter of results I guess is what I'm getting at, but how you get there and how confident you are with what you use shouldn't be discounted either.
Matt...

True in cars, prolly less true with sticks and balls.

Good shooting.

I hate these 2 table views, rather have one table and hear stories about the second one.
But what is even worse than that is when they superimpose another table on the screen so you can watch both tables.

Thanks and I have to agree. I've recorded very little in my life, however, and don't intend on starting now ;)

When you had the 2 balls at the bottom of the table where you had to cut one in the right corner and hold the CB, and cut the other in the left corner.
The shot before that where you had length of the table into the top left corner and went 2 rails for shape.

I looked at that and I was like, feather the 11 and hide behind the 11. Although you're probably a 90+% favorite to make the 13, I just didn't know about shape.

I guess I just played what felt right to me at the time, given that I'd over ran position. But I can't argue with your alternative, even though I didn't consider it in the moment. Good call there. I can also add that it was probably certain doom had I not pocketed the 13, which I did know at the time as well. Took a bit of a gamble I reckon. I had watched that guy shoot, new he was a good player, and didn't want him back at the table. So I went with the 13.

Actually, now that I think about it, in that video, Mr. Um came with one of the lowest % kick shots of all time to pocket the 8 and win the game. So I didn't want him kicking either. When I get a chance, I'll see if I can locate his shot. It was amazing.

I like nice arrows, so I'll buy and use nice arrows. Someone's gotta keep buying this stuff otherwise your local cuemaker goes even more broke than he probably already is.
