Unaware of mismatched ball sets in upcoming tournament.

The only real problem is that you won’t get a tight rack, but since you know that, you need to break accordingly.
If you bring your own cue ball and it’s pro level then it might be a bit heavier so need to take that into consideration as well.

I don't play tournaments , but I practice a ton of 14:1 and trying to get a tight rack is impossible at one of these places. Templates and straight pool don't get along well in my book.
I asked my original question bcuz I truly didn't know if this was something the pros addressed or just took in stride as I do.

At one club that do suffer from this issue of mixed sets, I bring my own set of balls when playing with friends, I used the club sets in league and tournaments as it's too much to deal with to move the balls from table to table and gather them between matches... for those I do carry an Aramith pro red dotted cue ball. They have Aramith Black sets to rent but there is no way I'm paying for that....

At another club, they have premier sets for the regular crowd and Black sets for tournament and for the better players at no extra charge so when I go there I leave my set at home.

In your case, I would just buy a set and take it to the club, I know it's a hustle but worth it. A well maintained, clean, good quality set of balls make a lot of difference.

I’m told there’s a pool hall in STL that stopped using Aramith CBs because they kept getting swiped, so they replaced them with cheap, lighter knockoffs. Funny thing is some guys like them because their draw shot improved with the lighter CB, lol.

cues with flat tips and warped. balls with chips out of them and dirty. roll off in every table, different sized pockets on the same table,

Maybe you should be happy you have place to play at all, if you have to have perfect conditions, maybe you should find a a different sport. Surpised the fews Room in Phoenix that are still open are. Pool Rooms are not big money printing machines.

You'll all playing with that same disadvantage. I'm so used to playing tournaments with old nasty mismatched sets I'd be more worried if I showed up to one with legit clean sets. LOL

In the hall I'm thinking about, several balls in each tray are just a tad smaller, but seem heavier and older, by the looks of the numbers on the stripes.
I try to put those on the corners and head ball.

Watch the sets over time...customers be stealing the balls one at a time and soon they'll all be traded out and matching again.

Problem solved.
