Ultimate Pool - Florida Open

Just came here to ask a similar question about the Open.

The Shootout was fun to watch, and now I know people in the Open and want to track and support them. The live updates are here:

But I can't find the groups. I want to see who is playing who, and when, and see what their wins/losses are as they go.
From your link hit all events then select categories

who comes up with an idiotic rule where if you make the 8 ball only on the break you lose your turn. you made a ball. you keep shooting.

and making the 8 should be a win just like making the 9 in 9 ball.

do they want to take out all the excitement in pool and just make it a drudgery.

They listened to the feedback on the idiotic rule you referred to and they changed that. I hate that the "golden break" is no longer a win in the shootout, but I like that rule in the Open.

what is best for the best of the top players has to be also not a penalty for the lesser players

and what keeps the spectators interested and excited has to be considered of the utmost importance. as without them there is no pro tournament pool.

the most exciting sets are where the lesser player/underdog in the match gets lucky, and has a real chance of winning and it gets to, or near hill hill.

Bergman won the event and looked great.

Beat David Alcaide in the semi-final and then dismantled Shane Thompson in the final.

It's a shame these events don't count for Mosconi Cup qualification.
That would be funny as hell to have the Euro team walk in for the next Mosconi Cup and see 7ft Diamonds, and Shane says, the game is barbox 8 ball this year, bitches!

Although I don't like all of the rules they have implemented (primarily no golden breaks), I do like the 30 minute format (40 minutes for juniors) and the 6 ball shootout is 10 times better than the spot shot by the competition and that's why UP is by far my favorite pool format to watch, snooker and the WPBA do come in at a close second/third though.

What other league/format has allowed some of the old school players (Dennis Hatch, Johnny Archer, Matlock, etc.) get back in the spotlight and make a little money and have a little fun, heck, even Nick Varner had a little fun a while back. It also allows locals to experience some spotlight and have a little fun, get to meet some pro's and maybe make a little money - Easy-E is the first person to come to mind, I always enjoy his matches. Then there are the juniors and women's events. I don't know what type regular events/leagues they have for the women or the juniors outside of these tournaments but I enjoy watching them in these high pressure situations and it brings attention to them so, hopefully, they can find sponsors and continue playing.

My one negative is TV coverage for the outside tables. I know there is a website to view results but it would be nice to see the brackets at least once or twice during a match, I generally watch on my TV and I don't want to have to look at a website. Maybe occasionally, even once before and once after a match, show what's happening on the outside tables. If you only watch the YouTube videos you probably wouldn't even know there is an entire tournament going on in the background. I wish they would do something similar to the WPBA events where they will have two or three other streams going on, sometimes there's commentary and sometimes there's not, either way, I get to see what's happening on the outside tables.

All that being said this weekend, by far, has been my favorite as 2 of my top 5 players (Sofia Mast and Justin Bergman) won trophies this weekend, along with my favorite player from across the pond (not including snooker players), Chris Melling, who won two trophies - so far! Sofia and Chris won the mixed teams event and Bergman won the Shootout then Melling won the 10B! Aslo, I've been watching Sofia's personal streams I don't believe she has lost a match yet.

Play in one (or go watch) if you have a chance, the vibe is really good and happy. Part of it (or maybe most of it) is the tournaments themselves are incredibly well run and managed from what I’ve seen.

I hope they can continue to produce these tournaments. The league seems to be doing really well in my area, in large part due to the time limits.

I think one big reason that this format is becoming so popular is the quick pace. When I was shooting in leagues my favorite league format was 2 man teams. We played 4 individual games, 2 against each opposing team member rotating breaks, 2 doubles games and 2 scotch doubles games. You were involved in a game for the majority of the session, there was very little just sitting around as a spectator. It took less than 2 hours and you were done. Unfortunately when the 2 man league ended so did my time at pool league. If UPUSA was in my area it might be something I would try.

I posted in the other thread a minute ago.. UP is new in our area and I gave it a try. I don’t enjoy it. Some people really like it. Others don’t. We’ll see how it does over time in my area. I hope they make a go of it, but I won’t be playing after this year.

That alone makes it good as far as I'm concerned.

I wonder if the US leagues don't implement time controls because the whole point is to keep people at the bar. Instead we get five-minute coaching time outs so the 2 can miss to some other pocket.

The leagues I've played in since 1979 had only about 25% dead time. Before that, it was two games of eight ball in three hours.

What do you not like about the UP league??

Don’t like the format, handicaps, rules including the j pattern break, shot clock, and eligibility for nationals rules. I thought I would like the 30 minute match rule and one match at a time thing. I don’t. I really don’t like anything about it except it’s pool and 8 ball. There are plenty of people who disagree with me and I recognize its personal preference. But I don’t prefer it.

Maybe I missed the link.... Is there a published prize list for the events?
