Although I don't like all of the rules they have implemented (primarily no golden breaks), I do like the 30 minute format (40 minutes for juniors) and the 6 ball shootout is 10 times better than the spot shot by the competition and that's why UP is by far my favorite pool format to watch, snooker and the WPBA do come in at a close second/third though.
What other league/format has allowed some of the old school players (Dennis Hatch, Johnny Archer, Matlock, etc.) get back in the spotlight and make a little money and have a little fun, heck, even Nick Varner had a little fun a while back. It also allows locals to experience some spotlight and have a little fun, get to meet some pro's and maybe make a little money - Easy-E is the first person to come to mind, I always enjoy his matches. Then there are the juniors and women's events. I don't know what type regular events/leagues they have for the women or the juniors outside of these tournaments but I enjoy watching them in these high pressure situations and it brings attention to them so, hopefully, they can find sponsors and continue playing.
My one negative is TV coverage for the outside tables. I know there is a website to view results but it would be nice to see the brackets at least once or twice during a match, I generally watch on my TV and I don't want to have to look at a website. Maybe occasionally, even once before and once after a match, show what's happening on the outside tables. If you only watch the YouTube videos you probably wouldn't even know there is an entire tournament going on in the background. I wish they would do something similar to the WPBA events where they will have two or three other streams going on, sometimes there's commentary and sometimes there's not, either way, I get to see what's happening on the outside tables.
All that being said this weekend, by far, has been my favorite as 2 of my top 5 players (Sofia Mast and Justin Bergman) won trophies this weekend, along with my favorite player from across the pond (not including snooker players), Chris Melling, who won two trophies - so far! Sofia and Chris won the mixed teams event and Bergman won the Shootout then Melling won the 10B! Aslo, I've been watching Sofia's personal streams I don't believe she has lost a match yet.
