Psychology bachelor’s thesis on neurocognitive aspects of pool billiards – participants wanted

Hi everyone,

I hope this is okay to post here.

My name is Christian Lill-Rastern. I am a billiards instructor from Austria and currently writing my bachelor’s thesis in psychology at the University of Innsbruck.

For my thesis, I am investigating neurocognitive aspects of pool billiards performance. More specifically, the study looks at abilities such as spatial reasoning, mental rotation, movement anticipation, and intuitive physics, and how these may relate to performance in pool.

The online test takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes and is open to players of all levels — from recreational players to league, tournament, and elite players.

Please try to complete the test as fully as possible. Short breaks are possible, but very long interruptions may cause the session to expire or the test to be interrupted.

This is a non-commercial academic project. I would be very grateful for every participant and also for any feedback from experienced players, instructors, and coaches.

If you know other pool players who might be interested, sharing the link would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for supporting scientific research in pool billiards!

Absolutely! More: I hope to be able to provide a valuable instrument for trainers and players! As far as I know there are no Pocket Billiard specific Test Instruments out there.

Well I took the exam with a little life in between.
Would enjoy conversation regarding same but don't want to ...uh encourage or discourage an interesting testing experience.
I did remain anonymous but am easy to find.

Ooops I missed a chance.
My Highest education came 7,250 feet above sea level. Far Far above Annapolis OR West Point. SIR! Ooops

A license allows you to play in a sports organization's events. You agree abide by the rules of the organization. We don't do that much in the US. Back when I was a player member of the BCA -- which they don't have any more -- I don't recall signing any agreement to abide.
This is for his thesis. Honestly, he needs to fix that.

No, hard to abide by rules when they are made up as they go along, lol.

Was inquiring about your history. Before I engage.
You....
Began when/why.... then tell us a small journey.
I grew up in the trench area, the decade after Mosconi/Fats were still workin' it,
Varner and I were the best in the US late 60's-70's.... plus Carella on the nine foots played our speed.

So who are U OP?....

Sad to hear of the demise of BCA.

I still play competitive in the local little league.

Wish I had not hit the submit while anonymous now. Kinda wonder how I did on the test. 😉

Is a thesis for a Bachelor a thing in the US also?
No.

You might do one for undergraduate honors programs or a capstone project. Most bachelors degrees in the US do not include such a thing. Typically US bachelors are more general, teaching you how to think, not what to think. In Austria the bachelor educations are more specialized, more technically specific.
