Chalk Habits and A Doozy of an AccuStats

An older fellow that I've logged many hours playing against has a chalk habit when he first arrives to play.
He grabs 5 cubes of masters chalk and walks around the gold crown table placing one on all but one rail sections.
Then as he plays, he chalks up abundantly and sets the chalk face down on the rail. After 6.5 hours of play, the rails are a mess.

My chalk stays in my pocket and I'm constantly moving one or many of his chalks out of the way of my shot.
Then he complains that the masters chalks end up all grouped together at one end and redistributes them.
It makes me laugh.

Then I watched this video where Mike Sigel and Earl Strickland do THE EXACT SAME THING:

Maybe not chalk upside down all the time, but why so many chalks?!? And they end up all together...

The best is (sounds like what this guy does) when a dude walks around the table a chalks with every piece of chalk before shooting, someone that does that needs a good whack upside the head with the fat end of a house cue. Same when they put the chalk upside down on the rail, just why???? The dude needs to be explained to that's its a foul if a ball goes up on the rail and strikes a piece of chalk, that's why you don't want 5 chalks on the rail. One night at league there were excessive chalks on the table and people were only using the one good one, when it was my game the chalk was out of reach from where I was shooting from and all of the crappy chalks were grouped together, I used my cue like a hockey stick and slap shotted them across the room, everyone started laughing. I didnt do it for the humor, more or less just making a point to get the crap off of the table, especially if its not being used.

If it ever starts to really bother you, and you do not want to confront his deviant, filthy habit directly, you could go the passive-aggressive route. Each time you rack, bring a towel to the table, and say, "Let me fix the chalk for you," and clean the rails and replace the chalk face up exactly on the middle diamond of each rail section. Or maybe clean the table every half hour.

If you could convince him to use those $30 chalks, that might slow him down. You could pocket one every other session.

Would you make an exception for Efren? He is a known chalk-inverter.

Do you know WHY he and other good players do this? Some might be placing it randomly and I only notice when it’s inverted, but I swear some are doing it on purpose.

My only theory is they are trying to get rid of loose chalk in the cube. Like if they grew up playing with crumbling chalk or something.

My brother in law does this and I ask him why and he acted like it was the right way...he had never really thought about it. Every time I pick up the chalk, I put it down right side up... He puts it down wrong on his turn

Another peeve of mine is when people chalk over the table, oblivious to the shower of chalk they're dropping directly on the rail or the cloth.

Speaking of chalking, I captured this from a live stream a while back :ROFLMAO:
Obsessive chalking is a sign of a player that's very nervous, I pay attention to this.

This is one I remember. The guy did this the entire match. Chalking 10+ times on every shot, even easy stuff. I would honestly refuse to play him. That's into the realm of OCD behavior that I don't want to even be around. Go flip a light switch or something like a normal person. ;)

I'm not trying to crap on anyone with OCD but I honestly can't stand this type of tick. The guy's probably a great dude but I'd never hang around enough to know, I'd be out the door. My adhd brain can't handle this type of stuff. On a tough shot I could understand it but this was literally every shot. No thanks. 😰

Depends on what you stand to win. I typically avoid annoying players, but if I feel like I have a good chance to win and they bet enough I'm playing.
I'm pretty sure Jesus got paid pretty well for that set, definitely in the thousands.
