$1.5M first place prize for Chinese tournament next week

Americans definitely need a visa to travel to China. I’d get one many times for my dayjob over the years. It lasted 1 year with entry and exit max duration of 30 or 60 days (I forget). The last time I got one, which was I think about 2012, I was able to get a visa that lasted 10 years, instead of 1 year, with entry and exit duration a max of 60 days.

Our secretary would do a lot of the legwork for us, and the whole process would usually take about a month.

Idk if there is a “tourist” visa that might be simpler?

they live close and are used to the culture deal. very few non-asian players will go there on a regular basis. like i said they'll cherry pick the big events.

My original post specifically referred to more Asian players going to China. Like you, I do not expect lots of non-Asians to fly to these events.
 
yea, the ko brothers have a big advantage. not only the geographical distance from taiwan but also that they're chinese and can capitalize on social media there etc. would be interesting to see the odds
 
Not being a trusting soul I have to wonder if the chinese gubment put some money in the pot for this big last minute post.

As for savers, I always give Vito 20% of the saver. Never a problem!

if you give part of your winnings to an out of country person you need to have some proof of what you did. which isnt hard to do.
you need to do same as if you win a calcutta and give part away to an investor to cover yourself.

then you only owe on what you collected. not what was advertised.
it goes along the same lines as deducting expenses if it is your profession.

You can bet they'll be in for a rude awakening with the quality of the playing field.
For that much coin, those tourneys are going to have the closet monsters show up that no one has heard of outside of China except in whispers.
You can bet there's a whole bunch of them!!

there aren't many unknown monsters in our time, neither in china nor outside of it.

i don't know if the JOY heyball players are allowed to compete in this, if so zheng will be up there along with the ko brothers as favorites. wu jiaqing and myint kyaw will be high up too, but likely not favorites

Only 1.4 or 1.5 Billion people in china. How many unknown pool players can there be!(grin)

I doubt there is or was ever a road player that didn't run into a chainsaw now and then, a local with no name! I wonder how many people in china are on the net? How many pool players? Even a couple decades ago the pool hall regulars here didn't know how to turn on a computer unless it was job related!

340 million in the US. If there were any way to prove it I would bet the farm that there are more than a dozen unknown players that nobody wants to bet their own money against. I spent a fair amount of time at Buffalo's when I lived down thataway before Katrina. It was damned rare anyone picked up a phone and took a picture! How many times have we seen somebody trying to ID a player on this huge AZB site? It happens, but usually after the skinning and not very often even then.

I believe monsters lurk even right here in the US. china? Hell yeah! I don't know what it would take to bring them out though.

social media really exploded after 2005 though. and gambling became less prevalent relative to tournaments. the "monsters" in 2026 are fast improving youngsters, but they're not unknown for long after they make a splash. they may even have an fargorate, that they are outrunning

I think the hidden monsters are unknowns playing in one or a few places, maybe small town. Fargo is doing a lot of damage to unknown tour players now I believe. I'm thinking more about my old mentor. A shortstop that owned a pool hall in a leased space. The owner of the space built a pool hall in a nicer part of town and they played for the rent every month, alternating spots. You had to have your best tennis shoes on to beat either one!

there are many near top players few hear about except locally. some are regionally great and can beat most road players. even if they are known around where they live, the road player may not be aware of them.

imagine in china or other countries where info stays local.
