I was a machinist for a number of years. You're not wrong.Anyone that thinks they can pick out a offsized ball from a .03mm/.001" tolerance set is delusional.

I believe it. When working in that environment every day, you can get really comfortable seeing very small variations.I worked in a machine shop for 2 years as an intern when I was 20... was never formally a machinist. Anyway, I bet a guy that was a machinist I could put a part in the mill vise parallel within .005" (without using parallels). We put a Last Word indicator on it, and I won
That's different than what we are discussing here, but it reminded me.
I had a whole thread on that and had a few made, laser cut. I let the idea die though, that was 3-4 years ago. The new ball sets are almost all universally excellent (when brand new), whether made by Aramith or Dynaspheres. I don't think there are any other manufacturers of legit phenolic resin balls?why doesn't some sharp guy/gal manufacture a ball template...piece of stainless steel with a 2.25 hole punched in it...for sale. For the really anal....2 holes....go and no go....gauges like they do for ammo reloaders.
