SVB v. Fedor Gorst

Does that mean that they don't try as hard as they can in tournaments because they might only have $1,000 invested while playing for $30K to win and don't have enough vested interest to bring their A game ???
Gee, I don't know. How hard do you play for your money?

How does anyone even think they are putting up their own money or gambling? This was announced from the start as a series of matches put on a by a promoter with the winner staying for the next match and the loser packing.

This is like the very last matches of TAR, where we saw Busty, Archer, Shane, and I forget if anyone else, where Justin put up all the money and made the match his terms.

That said, I don't think that will make the slightest difference in how these two guys play this match.

I like SVB here. Lately I think Fedor’s focus has been on using his name to sell pool products instead of on the practice table because he hasn’t been having the tournament results we’ve come to expect from him.
It could be coincidence, but ever since his firs trip to Vietnam and then the breakup less than a year after he put a ring on it, his caliber of play has not been the same. Just an opinion, though.

Agreed. It could be that the breakup made Fedor re-evaluate his long term plans and spend more time building a business instead of a pure player career. Shane just keeps on fishing! 😎

That is of course while Europe keeps on winning it year in year out 😏😁
No that’s always, it makes a mockery of the game in my opinion with MR not only allowing, but seemingly encouraging the raucous, rowdy behavior of the audience. I find it disrespectful to the players and the game. Apparently this is a MR thing as similarly, I don’t like Emily at MR’s changes in matches at WNT events.

I remember attending the first US Open in Vegas after MR’s taking over the rights to the US Open, pumping in music during matches, etc., I find it appalling. it appears Emily in her lack of experience regarding this game, and her true strength, which is marketing, feels that making this game into a carnival like atmosphere is the way to success. Perhaps it appeals to the lowest common denominator of “fans” in the way that checkers is more appealing to great unwashed as compared to say Chess. To me, I’d rather see the game be as it always was than see it be more popular via these methods.

This game requires an inordinate amount of concentration to play it at an elite level just as snooker or golf does. As a result I think MR should give it the same respect as it does snooker, instead of defiling it in the name of profit, you’d never see snooker refs allowing these antics in snooker championships. I knew the WNT would be a circus the moment she was given rule over it by Barry Hearn and I think he’s an asshole for not putting it under the leadership of someone with a pool background. It made it clear it’s about money, and not about respect or sanctity of this game.

what's the score?
I have been searching for the score all over Facebook and here. Not a peep. Amazing to have such promotion beforehand and not a mention of the score while it's in progress.

I don't know about others, but I was glued to the tube watching Norway v. England last night, and Keith was sweating some fight on Paramount+.

same, and what a fight they put up against england, very strong for a small nation.

on fedor i don't think it's the breakup with kristina, or his business endeavors. the breakup was long enough ago now and the business is probably mostly run by the swords. more likely it's his congenital back problem that acts up in periods, or just the ebbs and flow of pro player form. he'll win a big tourney again soon enough

Agreed. Any drop in actual play hasn't shown up in Fargo yet. He's maintained his 2nd-place-by-a-noae position.

Looking through his recent record, there's still a lot of lopsided victories, with some hill-hill losses sprinkled in. Maybe there's something going on. Or maybe the result distribution just hasn't given him a lot of big wins recently.

I stayed in last night and watched a good portion of the match. The play was high by both players, and the production kept my attention. Nice job.

Random observation...

At 21-21 the odds to win were Fedor (54%), SVB (46%).

I'm surprised that there was an 8% gap, given their Fargo rates are only 4 points apart; 850-846.

If you asked me to guess what the % difference in chance-to-win, in what would be a race to 29, I would have thought 4 Fargo points would amount to maybe a 51-49% or 52-48% difference.

EDIT TO ADD:

Then, one game later with Fedor ahead 22-21, his odds jumped to 59-41%.

Wow.
