Cues for Sale... Without Extensions

Lately I've been seeing a few very lovely cues for sale I'd have bid on in the past -- real knock outs.

But nowadays I want any cue I buy to be fitted for an extension -- IMO it's almost impossible to play without one. In the old days I would have never thought about it. But now, after playing with two cues fitted for an extension, I just can't bring myself to buy a cue without.

What say you?

Lou I retired recently and and was gifted a Bcue and a nice jump cue.
The Bcue came with a couple of extensions of different lengths.
Wow after 50 years of playing I saw the light. Jump cue is great also but I am way behind the curve so I mostly kick, most times I don't even recognize jump shots.

I build extensions for my cues that match the cue. They are for screwing on for the occasional shot that you can't reach. If you want one to play with all the time you will either have to accept an ugly cue or an ugly extension if you want light weight. My extensions can't rival CF for light.
 
I use the 8” extension on at least 10% of my shots. I should just keep it on my cue but I don’t like the extra weight. I keep it in my pocket while playing knowing that if I set it down I’ll end up leaving it behind. I already lost a few cue claws by leaving them at the pool hall. I paid $80 for my predator extension a year ago, today it’s $199. You used to be able to get a good cue for $199. I’ll never buy another cue that does not have an extension.
 
I have a set (12.5”and 18”) of Tony Ryan oak cue extensions. It is the best pool accessory I have ever added.
The 18” turns my 58” cue into a 76” length; the 18” oak extension let’s you position your hand on the handle.
I don’t know why this extension stopped being made. It fits on any cue butt I’ve tested it on and it’s all wood.

Lou I Play both left and right handed. Plus play with one handed (jack up cue). Why extension? We showing our age!! I believe when you use an extension... its could be classified as breaking down your cue and losing the the game without permission!!
 
I agree.
I have a slip on extension for my old cue that I didn’t want to mess with. And fitted extensions to others.
But I would not buy a cue that doesn’t have an extension system.
I’m pretty good with the mechanical bridge and there are sessions that the extension doesn’t get out of the case, but it’s a great tool to have.

I thought an extension would be a total game changer for me. I had one made out of wood, and it feels like I strapped a boat anchor onto the back of my cue. I can't make the easiest ball. I look like I play pool on the spectrum or something. Then, I used Miller's feather weight Mezz extension, and I totally appreciate the value of space age material in extensions. For me, all future extensions need to be made of the NASA-grade martian material in the Mezz extension. I don't even bother using my extension half the time, and instead opt to look awkward with a bridge.

I've been a student since I started playing 9 ball so don't really have money for a cue and the cue I used for UK pool has far too small a tip to use with American sized balls. Because of that been stuck using my local clubs cues when I play. Actually don't mind them and think they are decent cues, though never played with a carbon fibre cue to compare the difference. But the times I get frustrated with using the club cues is when I'm either having to stretch or use the rest for a shot that would be a lot easier with an extension. When I do get round to buying a cue I'm not sure if it will be wood or carbon fibre, but I certainly wont buy anything that doesn't have the ability to attach an extension.
 
i use a hagar extension
fits all cues
has a pouch that attaches to my case to carry ...no inconvenience at all
so for me it would not matter what cue i buy

I can play right or left too.

Howevar, there are some shots you can only reach with an extension or a bridge.

The two cues I have that are fitted for an extension use the Predator -- light as a feather.

And, just like anything else, you need to practice with them to know how to use them.
