U.S. OPEN 2026, Frisco, Texas, August 25-30

I love Shane Van Boening and admire his accomplishments, which are many more than those of most BCA Hall of Famers. But if you ask me who the best player in the world is today, my answer is Joshua Filler.

When Filler is on, I don't believe there is a person on the face of the planet who can beat him.

Every pool champion has a streak of greatness, some longer than others. Earl Strickland's lasted for decades. Shane Van Boening is still streaking. And I believe Joshua Filler's streak has begun. He's on a roll, and his name belongs in the conversation as one of the best, if not the best player in the world today. Like Shane and Earl, Filler puts in the hours, hours and hours and hours of practice.

Champions have their moments. The truly great ones have eras. I think we're watching Joshua Filler's era begin.
I agree with you about the grades having errors, but I think at this point when you had to go through a field with Yapp, Filler, Gorst, biado, chua, Wiktor, Ko brothers, FSR, and a bunch of great young European players in the 800s. At this point, the talent level is so deep. I don’t know if anyone can stream together any type of big tournament run.

over in the uk they call it a ‘kick’

basically the opposite of a ‘skid’

a kick goes forward
a skid slides slowing down

or you might say that the kick comes first
and the skid is what happens after that

i always liked ‘ghost-masse’

Yeah, Darren was really upset. I see his side of it, but banning the old chalk isn't going to happen for a while. I missed the skid.
Quite frankly, Darren is acting like a little bitch. Bob, I have all the respect in the world for you, but any talk of “banning the old chalk” is completely ludicrous. Gee how did any of us ever get by before “makeup chalk”? 🤦🏻

Hard to believe Trudeau is on-site at a pool event. There are still some folks angry about the IPT payments not forthcoming. I'd love to see a photo.

Darren Appleton and Denis Grabe were praising him on Facebook hoping he runs tournaments in the future. I was surprised by all the positive comments.

I'm watching the Elliot Sanderson/Deuel match now because I missed it live. Do all the non-table1 tables have a physical shot clock and a referee calling 10/5 secs to the shooting players?

Elliot gets upset with the referee as he's 2 balls out from taking rack 2 after a failed kick attempt from Corey. He has to stretch for a shot so he goes back to grab an extension. And for a second before he goes down on the shot, Corey asks the referee to look at the shot. You can see Corey point a finger at the table in the direction of the ref (possibly to catch him on a shirt foul is all I can see.) As he goes down on the shot is I guess when the referee must've stepped in front of the shot clock or to the left of his shot line. He gets up and tells the ref "you can't do that", that "you cost me 5 seconds", gets down then gets up from the shot again as the ref calls 5 seconds and proceeds to make the shot. He comes up a little short on position and has a slight test to cut the 9 in, which he makes while saying ludicrous over and over again. He immediately voices frustration about it even after the ref tells Elliot that Corey asked him to look at the shot to which Elliot replies "well then tell him no", even going as far as saying "well we need a new ref." The ref I think offers an explanation that the setup at the venue is new to them and a bit weird for those working. Perhaps maybe being short on bodies to cover all tables?

... How're you going to stone cold tell a referee to deny a look at a shot on the table to catch a possible foul because the other player asked? Weird.

Also on rack 5 before Corey breaks, he notices the 2 ball is in a position that must not be allowed and tells the ref that it needs to be somewhere else. The irony is not lost. :D

I just found a photo with Darren and Jayson. I'm sure Mike Sigel accompanied him to the event. Mike Sigel has a way of getting folks investing in pool. We actually had a great experience with Kevin Trudeau and the IPT.
