Big Ko on Waxed Balls

Interesting video from the Ko Bros on playing with waxed balls vs normal balls.

Much of the information as to how to deal with it is similar to Niels Feijen’s video on how to play on new cloth, but it’s still interesting.

I can’t entirely understand the translation of the comments section but maybe someone like Flakeandrun can shed some light on what they are saying about why this is done and how common it is.

Get some Pledge from Walmart and try it yourself. The slick wears off so you'll have your bare balls left. If you like it avoid anything that says wax on the label. Plain silicone in the can is what users use. Don't know a suitable brand or where to get it.

I haven't had a look, but I imagine there's a lot of subtle (or wide open) digs at Filipinos lol

Not sure I understand all this, but I use hand sanitizer to clean the balls. Only few drops for each ball.

Seems to work fine. Am I missing something?

you can't do this at every inning. if a player's gonna lube the ball from his pocket/glove he can do this mid match..

I had never heard of waxing the ball until the topic came up. The poolhall(s) i go to clean the balls with some product that has to be silicone based. The balls are slippery as hell and the CB slides too much. I sprayed some silicone on a rag and rubbed it on my CB and got the same effect.

If you use Pledge, it's not wax you feel or getting on the balls, basically silicone, and some versions of itadd a bit of mineral oil.

The funny thing is there’s all been all this hubbub about waxing balls since Kaci cast his aspersions at the Filipinos.

Yet no one talks about all the pool halls and many with tables at home that think car wax, I.E. Meguires, etc. are something you clean pool balls with. Wax, silicone, etc. cancels throw, it also increases length of the angle in a bank shot. These are game altering conditions. What’s insidious is that as they’re used, going into pockets and ball returns and being handled by the players, the wax wears off a little at a time, thereby reintroducing throw a little at a time, and angle of a bank starts to shorten a little at a time and it’s changing from shot to shot, game to game. That’s problematic

This video was most certainly not what I was expecting when I saw "waxed balls". That's all I will be saying on this matter.😁

I’m surprised you missed the whole controversy a year or so ago. Kaci (and other players) accused some players (including but not limited to some Filipinos) of applying wax (or silicone) to the CB during a match. Dennis Orcollo talked about it as well on a livestream.

My understanding of the practice was that it originated in Asia as a practice aid to try to duplicate the slippery conditions the players would be facing in WNT type tournaments (new cloth and balls) - something almost impossible to find in many places. There is nothing wrong with this as a practice technique, but the allegations were that some players were secretly doing this in tournaments - thus altering the conditions mid-match.

Have you seen people waxing up the CB in practice in the PI?
