I took a package to a UPS store (not cue) and insured it for $1000.... They said anything over $900 has to be packed by their store. Do have that when you ship. I want to ship a few $500-900 cues and case.... Close to $2500 or more

You can pack and weigh yourself. Make label on your home printer with Pirate Ship and insure up to 5k. Then take your package to the UPS store and get it scanned in with a receipt. Your insurance is then active. I have been using this since Pirate Ship started. In 20 years I have had one broken cue a few months ago. Insurance paid. I have had 3-4 real long delays but nothing lost with UPS. I find the 3-day service is usually cost efective. Higher price cues, 3k and more go 2 day when available or next day saver. Good luck.

its so hard to collect from shipping insurance i feel it best just to ship it.

and once you insure it , all who touch it know its valuable, and have an incentive to abscond with it.

Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me. Was it an actual UPS location or an affiliate?

I suppose you could get a quote and find out if you had to ship through UPS again: https://www.ups.com/us/en/ups-insureshield

Just this past Friday I shipped a cue, which I had packaged myself, to Proficient Billiards, at a local UPS shipping center. I insured it for $1K no problem. Scot has already sent it back via UPS. I got the tracking info this morning.

Again, how does a handler know insured/ not when he looks at a package?

UPSStore's are franchises and these asswipes can/will/do charge whatever-the-fk they want. I once sent a cue to a cuemaker that lived about 70yds off the hwy. The motherfk'rs tried to hit me with a 'gravel road charge'. Total seemed high so i took it to post office, sent it for half the price with zero issues. IF i ever use UPS i'll take it to the main UPS-owned office.

I can add this for what's it's worth based on what I have been advised by UPS Customer Service.

To pay the lowest UPS price get your own UPS Acct, make your own labels, do your own packing. But if you insure it for more than the standard $100 it will not be in effect if you drop it at a UPS Franchise Store. For the insurance to be in effect it must be dropped off and signed by a UPS employee. So set it for pick up, find a truck in the neighborhood or drop it at a UPS Center.

they do put a bar code sticker on packages insured for more than 100
You just uncovered a new scam. Ship a bunch of scrap wood pieces and insure it for $10,000 each. Put your own INSURED label on the package and let it rip.

the postal service is all for the most part federal employees with great jobs and benefits that do not want to risk losing that.

thats why i ship with them.

the other carriers i dont know what their employee regs. are.
